Did Fram switch back to nitrile adbvs?

NAPA Golds during their bi-annual filter sale. That's where you want to be. I keep saying this but few listen. I buy filters by the case, but refuse to buy jobber filters. My store is doing theirs right now, usually spring and fall. Prices are of course higher with everything else, but ~$6 filters (formerly $4-5) are fantastic for WIX quality.
I lied. I just bought a few filters today. Most of the ones I bought were $4.51 and $4.75, so under $5. The exception was a 7082 for $5.94. Also keep in mind the filters I purchased were sizes that aren't offered as a case, so no case discounts. So even in this inflated nonsense economy, they are still incredibly cheap. Absolute no-brainer.

I'd have no problem with that, but no sales to be had at either of my two local NAPAs. Still $10 for a Gold, $12 for platinum (none in stock). Might just pick up a WIX cellulose blend for $5 instead.
Yeah, unfortunately if you don't have a corporate store near you, franchise stores tend not to participate in the company sales. Corporate stores, when searching on Google, appear as "NAPA Auto Parts - Genuine Parts Company." If the name is anything else (example: "NAPA Auto Parts - Jimbob Auto Parts Inc."), then it's a franchise store, which means you'll have slim odds of any deals.

Both nitrile and silicone rubber have good oil/fuel resistance, but rated operating temperatures is where I would give the nod to silicone:

Nitrile operating range (-30F to +250F)
Silicone operating range (-100F to +400F or so)

With oil sump temps running at 230F plus, and outside cold startup temps that can reach -30F...silicone seems to be the best choice. I thought the oil filter industry moved to silicone decades ago???

Plenty of OEM and aftermarket filters today with nitrile ADBVs. Some may even be going back to nitrile to maybe cut manufacturing costs to maintain profits (?).

Nitrile works just fine for me here in Florida. What leaves a bad taste in your mouth is that FRAM is making a less expensive filter and selling some at drastically increased prices. None of which means they are poor quality.
Yes that's my issue as well. Reminds me of back in the day when everyone avoided Fram. Not for the quality, but for the negative value. At $8 a pop, the TG just isn't worth it.

My biggest issue with First Brands Fram is they keep cheapening filters, and then lying about it-don’t keep saying “2-ply synthetic media” about the Ultra, and ”silicone” ADBV about all the others. Especially when their customer service doesn’t even know what their own company is doing…

Compared to what?
For a dollar more I got a filter with even tight pleats, a thick can, metal end caps, silicone adbv, and a better made center tube with neat clean round holes. The TG when it was $4-$5 it was a good buy. But not at $8. Imo they're just too sloppy to spend $8 on.

Which filter is a dollar more and filters better? Or at least as well?

A simple burn test is a decent screening method of polymer identification. I've done it many times.

That’s what I did to a PH6607 or 4967, nitrile burns with black smoke and it reduces down to sticky tar.

I wouldn’t fear a nitrile ABDV for many things if serviced in a reasonable amount of time. But for some engines, silicone holds up better(Toyota M/S/JZ/MZ engines, many motorcycles, some Nissans since the oil filter is in close proximity with the exhaust manifold and upside-down filters like many Subaru, 1GR Toyota) and provides a small benefit that’s in the eye of the beholder.

I haven't been in a store lately to see for myself. When the EG's got a silicon ADBV, Fram boasted the EG's were good for 10k runs, is that still the case with the change to nitrile?

If people are seeing EGs with the orange silicone ADBV right now on the shelves, then the ones seen awhile back with black and even blue ADBVs must have been the reaction to a supply chain issue or some snafu on the production line.
