Dentist....teeth cleaning

I have dental implaints but my GF and wife did not....she is new in this area and looking for a dentist....we get all these "free xray....blah blah ....plus free cleaning on your first visit.
However the first visit turns into some special "deep cleaning" that cost 1400+ bucks ...we are retired so no ins. Yesterday was the 3rd time she was had this "deep cleaning" scam run buy her......I told her before you make another at give me the phone and i will flat ask is this some scam that suppose to be free that really cost 1400......or some yearly deal you prepay....everythig is turning into a "vacation home" style sales pitch....
Next it going to be before the doctor will see you we have this yearly prepaid medical deal for only 1200 you get upto 6 exams in person and two by phone! rant over....
 
Those prices are too high. I know of 3 dentists that charge $300 for a yearly plan that includes 1 set of x-rays, 2 regular dental cleanings, and a visit with the dentist after each cleaning. Reasonably priced. You never get what you pay into dental insurance so might as well pay out of pocket, unless you have really good insurance coverage at work.

The "deep cleanings" they are referring to are most likely periodontal treatments that go down to the root and are probably painful (not including to the wallet). So if you don't have recession or periodontal disease you don't need this. I've been to 3 dentist offices over the year, each which had a similar plan and no one asked me for a deep cleaning but I have heard of this upsell practice. They are giving this pitch to everyone even if they don't need it. These dentist offices are most likely corporate owned, a franchise chain, or just a greedy dentist whom I'd be concerned is looking into ones mouth like a gold mine and using any excuse for a procedure. Shop around if you have competition and ask the front desk if they will be pitching unnecessary treatments.

I fired my recent dentist because the he wasn't at the office to check up after my last cleaning. Shop around and read google reviews.
 
My GF told me when she first saw me that my teeth were so bright that there is no way it could be real for a 64 year old......she is a retired ICU nurse....
i told her yes....this dazzle cost some bucks.....but its not the real one on one implaints ......I got 8 teeth knock out from a bike crash at 22 and by 55 most of my teeth were fakes.....so i went for the implaints after my wife died on my 60th b-day
 
My daughter got approached for the deep cleaning by a new dentist in Philly and was told she had a couple cavities. Dentists are turning into used car salesmen. I brought her to my dentist for second opinion and he did x-rays and a cleaning for free for her. No cavities.

My local dentists cash price (no insurance) is $140 for a cleaning an X-rays. I have never even heard of a deep cleaning before. Is she going to a local independent office, or a chain like Aspen Dental.
I've had only one check up at Aspen dental, and they legit were like used car salesman.. Antibiotic teeth coatings, whitening treatments, you name it, but no deep cleaning service.
You'd be surprised how many small independant offices deal with cash only and make the price reasonable for us.
 
I just got mine done last month and it was $205 with X-Rays, cleaning and polishing. I hadn't been there for three years so it was deep cleaning.

They tell her because she is diabetic etc....which goes against what the medical doctor told her.....she would need to take anti-biotics fora week before....and unless it some major problem very very few every need them....like one in 400-500....
When the one last dentist told her she does not know what she is talking about she told him she is an ICU nurse and he was full of it...and walked out.

Local independant office right? That 205$ might be the current average now, its been 4 years since I've been myself..
 
One was a local one was not.....cant say about the other.....she has a 2 pm with a dentist her nurse prac she is friends with told her to try.....

Awhile back I went to a new Dentist office that just opened.
Got the $25000 implant sales pitch.
I declined.
Then it was well we can do this for $7000.
I declined.
Then off to a Denture and implant only Dentist with a lab on site.
Got what I needed for $700.
You have to shop Dentists just like cars.

You need to visit another dentist or two. Why not? Told something cost $1400 get another opinion.
There is such a thing called a deep cleaning but typically that is done after a regular dentist sees something severe and might actually send you to a specialist. A deep cleaning is expensive and valid for some conditions and very expensive.

To me it almost sounds like your GF went to Aspen Dental, am I right?
I dont know why but I feel like these all in one places try to build up profits.
The only reason I say this is I have gone to dentists my whole life, regular cleanings ect... and the first (and only time) I go to Aspen because of a ins plan change I am told two areas of my mouth need a deep cleaning and after insurance the cost would be $450.
I found another dentist to go to and waiting for the appointment day..

If I was you I would suggest to your GF to just ask for a regular cleaning or go to another dentist for another opinion.

My "implaints" were about 20k .....they aint cheap......first one i went to was 40k!
I tried the dentures route for about 2 weeks.....
I would gag everytime i put them "in" .....could not eat without them coming out etc.
They hurt like hell.... threw them away.
I have no regrets on implaints!....my gf says makes you have a smile like tom cruise now....
 
You will find vitamin D3 with K2 will keep the plaque off your teeth rather nicely plus many other benefits.
You can alter the dosage to your requirements. Research it and they are available as a combo.
 
We made the choice of working for State and Local Government, and my wife Federal.

I've been going every six months for the past 10 years to a reputible dentist, with no scams and nothing paid out of pocket beyond a $25 Fluroide treatment that I opt for.

I floss twice a day and rinse with act rinse every night and use a motorized toothbrush.
