Schmoe ...do you think that we're visionaries? Sure we're getting boned ...and it's going to continue. It's always been that way. It's just been too comfortable to do anything about. No one cared. We were the idiots (an id-iot is a person enslaved to their pleasures and sexdrives and little else) that went about our blind and ignorant ways and fully participated in the enveloping wrap that binds us now.
It's too late to do anything about. It's like a major metro area. It's a loser and a money pit ..but the cost of not supporting it costs more ..so you drop 'em and grit your teeth.

Guys, do you really think our farm lobbyist will let their politicians stop our sales of food oversea? Do you really think we will reduce production and farm subsidizes?
If we reduce, everyone around the world will cheer because price will rise and their farmer will now be able to make a living. There are plenty of food outside US, like Australia, Thailand, and all those area who were growing rice and wheat in the past but stopped will now back online.

This is an interesting thread that got me searching the net. Since I live in CA, and we are a gigantic agricultural state, I found this site:

- If California were a country, it would be the sixth leading agricultural exporter in the world.
(Add this up with all of the other farm states, and I don't think we will be trailing Brazil anytime soon.)
- The state is the leading farm exporter in the nation with $6.5 billion in agricultural exports in 2001.
- The Golden State's farmers and ranchers are the most productive food and fiber producers in the world,

Unless brazil starts growing something besides rice...

US agriculture cannot match what Brazil will be putting out in the near future. They have a 365 day growing season, and cheap labor. There was a show on TV several years ago saying that the Amazon delta will be able to meet the current world rice demand, when part of it is converted to rice production.
