funny how back in the day BMW was about driving and accommodated the owners, on this topic of oil. For example, I had read that when buyers complained about the steering being too light on the E46 coupe, BMW retrofitted steering racks for anyone who wanted it.

On my car, the E9x, the oil temp needle was off to the right when at a normal operating temp. People didn't like it, it looked too high.

So they changed the scale so the needle would be in the middle.

Today it's ok to be filled up 1/2 the recommended capacity, at the dealer, and live with it as these are trivial details :ROFLMAO:

I guess economic principles don't apply in Naples. My Lexus was sold at Germain there, still has a VIP sticker on the front.

Want to know the reality of what I have observed? Popular restaurants that have killed it for decades, one observes the owner(s) and their families doing everything, from waiting, bussing, cleaning, etc. If they are forced to do the cooking, they're out of business.
there isn't anybody to do the work. if you can afford to live there its because you already have your money or you retire from up north and move here with your money.. My Son drive's the CAT bus..... they have a bus that specifically goes to Immokalee at about 6 am just to haul a busload of what amounts to waiters and maids to a Marco Island hotel... quick observation is that the only way to get these low wage jobs filled is to import them from the poorest town in Collier County.. They are building a house 2 lots a way from me right now. and I have not heard 1 spoken word of English since they started two months ago... so yeah, that is the labor pool... immigrants who dont speak english or somebody on work release.

It’s dubious that the oil pump pickup is any higher or lower relative to the pan bottom in an engine that takes many quarts versus few. You never saw an oil pressure warning, nor did the oil get over temperature. You took it relatively easy.

Being sick to the stomach is natural, and I’d be livid and demand an extended warranty too. But if it were my car, I’d change LOF, and fight the fight on a warranty for the engine or at least the oil lubricated parts.

You’re probably ok.

Spot on!

Stories like these make me feel so much better about doing all maintenance on my cars. Not just oil changes but all that have to be done to make them last as long as they can. Doing it myself I know that it's done properly and on time.

The supercharger doesn't need oil. ;)

Seriously though, I think there is a good reason why that engine specs nine quarts of oil, not four and a half. No oil pressure light would go off if the supercharger didn't get enough oil.

All the folks talking down on the dealer techs - the easy solution is DIY. They hire folks at the bottom and usually provide little oversight of these positions. Complain about the dealer enabling this, not the poor kid trying to earn some money and figure this out. Are there some scum bags? Of course just like in about any job like this. Just b/c they screwed up doesn't mean they "don't take pride in their work". I'm quite sure everybody commenting here has screwed up before.
I have no desire to crawl underneath my vehicle. That being said-it's prudent to pull the dipstick after an oil change. If you don't do that-it's on you.

You have absolutely no way of knowing that.

Let's just hope the OP won't try to use an unapproved oil for his application, like Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 from Walmart, as that would spark some serious outrage and BITOGERs might even bring out their pitchforks and torches to make a point of how important it is to follow manufacturer recommendations... for warranty purposes, of course. 🙄

Good one, but there's two bitog camps. Thickies and the woke thinnies.

In 2012 I took posession of a new GMC 2500 Duramax that was 2 1/2 L low on atf.
I paid for the "dealer fees" and did not get the service.
About 6 months later I told the president of the auto group.
In 50 years I've never seen him ticked off. He turned bright red and wanted to know which dealership, time and date.
Not long after there was a general manager change at that dealership.

I got 4 free oil changes with a new 2018 3500 Duramax and 2 with a 2022 3.6L Acadia.
Oil levels were ok.

For the folks that are saying extend the warranty. How? Cadillac/GM is not invovled at this point, it's at the dealer level....so they would provide a third party extended warranty is what folks as thinking? How long is ok for this warranty beyond the manufacturer's warranty? Lifetime? This is a bit ridiculous. Get it in writing on a service order. Write a letter to GM and speak with the dealer's GM. Not sure what else can really be done. They aren't giving him a new car. Careful on the record bit here...may end up having an unintended consequence by having that show up on a Carfax and bite the owner when it comes time to sell it.

100%. I check any repair done on my vehicles b/c that's just smart. People double check my work all the time and for good reason.

Mistakes like that should have serious consequences.
There's more to the back story than "I bought a new truck at your _______ dealership and the atf was 2 1/2 L low".
The auto group in question would buy failing dealerships, send in one of their top performers and turn the place around.
This one was in a transitional period. The "installed" GM moved on to another dealership and one of the original managers
got the general manager job. Within weeks the place went back to how it was before the rescue.
At 4PM, everyone had gone home except the finance guy. (Boxer)
