There was a WWW show at the Mudgee Airfields today (120km away). The WWW stands for Wings (it's an airfield), Wine (It's quite a prolific and quality wine region), and Wheels (There's a lot of car freaks).
Highlights of the day...they had DC3 joyflights (we didn't do it, though). Hearing the DC3 take off was awesome. P51 Mustang (Oz flew them in WWII) was incredible to listen to on take-off, and his flyovers and aerobatics were a joy to hear (and watch).
XU1 Toranas (cars) by the dozen (I love them).
Reasonable, family priced Oz fare, and a family friendly atmosphere.
Some aerobatics by some really good pilots had my kids enthralled (including the 2 year old, who can spot a jumbo literally a mile away).
They had a sort of drag race, where a high performance car, and an aerobatic plane would start at the same time, heading for the other end of the runway.
They'd race to the other end, at which point the car had to stop, U-turn, and head back to the start. The plane had to pull vertical, turn, and pull back to 50', and race the car back to the start finish line.
This run ended badly when the canopy of the plane got blown off before the start, while he was revving against the brakes. The smoke is from his smoke generator.
Another aerobattic plane against an unmarked Police car (3.9L, VVT, Turbo)...the tyre smoke at the other end of the runway had us thinking the copper had lost it.
Cop car won by a long, long way.
Driving home we bought some fresh off the tree apples (they ran out of free range eggs), and stopped to look at the views in "The Gardens of Stone", about 40km from here.
