1. The thinnest motor oil I acknowledge the existence of is 30 weight. 20 weight and thinner does not exist in my world.

2. Most everyone here cares way too much about oil, including me. Most everyone in the driving public doesn't care enough. The "right" amount of caring is a lot closer to the driving public than it is to here, though.

3. I don't care about noack.

4. Despite my username, don't care for German cars and refuse to own one. Exception could possibly be made for a white elephant Unimog. Nothing to do with oil, but #3 reminded me that my girlfriend's TDI Beetle has a DPF and it made me doubly glad that's her car and not my problem.

Add to the list. What have you got?

Back in the late 1980's I used to hang out with this person that had a Volkswagen Gulf, exterior was blue, interior was blue cloth, 5 speed manual transmission, fun little car. The AC on this car was awesome during the summertime, this guy wrapped 1 of his AC hoses, that is why the Ac was so cold, he ran Castrol GTX 10W-40, his brother had a car like his, but it was the GTI, he decided to put an external oil cooler on, something was not tight, and for maybe 1/4th of a mile you could see a trail of oil in the middle of the street.

I am sure other members have interesting Volkswagen stories?

Hold up! Let me contact the CEOs of Exxon, Shell, BP, and Chevron. Them and the engineers goofed up.

Well it is a oil forum man.
Most everyone in the driving public doesn't care enough.
Who cares about the public? They're all a bunch of sheep anyways. Businesses bank on the general public not caring because that means more money spent out of their pockets and less questions asked. If everyone was informed, new car sales would be extremely low and there would be no profit to make.

See above.

Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche and other manufactures with high output engines sure do.

Phew, good thing they spend billions of dollars in R&D.

An exception will always be made for the Unimog.

HER car. . . Her problems become YOURS, no matter how much logic you put behind it.

None really. If I were to go out on a limb (ignoring tribologist) the more moly, regardless of boron, wear graphs etc, the better.

You might like this variety of oil. If your vehicle breaks down you can burn in your oil lamp to provide light at night instead of wasting electricity.

My Dad always kept the oil level at or near the lower mark on the dipstick. He claimed lower oil consumption by keeping the oil away from the crankshaft.

A VOA tells you pretty much nothing about an oil's goodness and is radically overblown by most. It's pretty useless aside from indication of a formulation change and general ideas about how they got from A to B.

I hope the owner of my next used car cares more than average.
