Considering 2020 Dodge/Ram 2500 gasser

Is there a large displacement gas engine in a big, heavy, non-aerodynamic truck that isn't hard on fuel? I've never experienced or heard of one.
The 7.3 Ford is very good on gas.
Very surprising. Far better than my 6.2 was. I actually am cheap on gas but I now run the truck daily and 87 octane is all it needs and a basic grade SN+ oil. Very cheap to service.

I am sure you're well outside the typical user Ford considered when engineering the Super Duty bed.
The Ford bed liner is hard as a rock
Somebody watched too many bogus commercials.
So I agree with you.
Of course the customer is always right.

I am including myself in this chastisement (I also have no idea), but it is peak BITOG (or close, nobody said he should get a Crown Vic instead) that nobody has commented on the front end strength and longevity of Ram 2500s...

It may be, but whichever truck i get will have a line-x coating, not a bedliner. I don't trust the aluminum at all. As a customer, I want steel not aluminum.

Its also more than just the bed, the sides, the top of the bed. I cut tree limbs from my driveway, standing in the bed of the truck with a pole saw. Some of them are going to hit the bed. I don't want to find out what a decent sized limb will do to the edge of the bed from 15ft drop. I do this in my avalanche all the time. I do toss bricks large stone and firewood in the bed, i would just rather have steel.

I think the Rams hood may also be aluminum.

I just wish toyota made a 3/4 ton truck.

I cant comment on the engine/trans combination but will comment on the front end design. Its beefy and works.

The only issue I had was the alignment from factory has some loose tolerances and had early on tire wear on the outside edges. I had a private shop zero it out and the wear was greatly reduced.

The 2013+ 3500 and 2014+ 2500 trucks are not really known for issues now. Pretty solid design.

The 2013 to 2018 trucks had a track bar recall but the 2019+ have a new version.

This is my exact truck the day I bought it- it is a spray in liner
Steel it is for you-understood-- just showing you.

I'm not sure what your point is with that question?

I own a 4wd Crew Cab Dually diesel pickup. I've owned lots of trucks over the years. I worked on lots more back in the day.

Those links are MPG figures from actual owners, for the exact trucks in question.
Pretty simple. You won't argue with the fuelly bunch but you will argue with me and I am an actual owner
and I said it gets great mpg...... and it does. Plus like you I have had many trucks and this is the best of the bunch.

Think I’d use a ladder over a $50k pickup

Agreed or buy another old beater instead!
My BiL got a great deal on an F150 and insisted they provide a full bedliner … then he put a horse mat in there for $40 … He hauls all kinds of things in that bed … Great truck (and I’m a GM guy) …

lol i've been known to use a ladder in the bed! ( only for an additional step or so).

But i have no intention of buying a truck, to not use it as a truck. Sure i will take care of it, but it is bought to get things done. Not be a garage queen.

The avalanche has been good, but my current travel trailer is a bit much for it.

My concern between the Ram and chevy, is which system is less of an issue? MDS or AFM? The plug in muzzlers really only keep it in v-8 mode, but unless you change out the lifters and cam like user Ls1Mike, you still have the potential for failure.

Who's arguing?

I simply said they get typical MPG for a 3/4 ton gas powered truck. The owners on Fuelly (none of whom I'm aware of knowing) confirm that.

You said it gets "great mpg". You didn't quantify what you consider "great mpg".

If you consider the average reported MPG of 11.85 to be great, more power to you.

Drive your truck in good health.

Looks nice, they did a good job on the spray in. Is it line-x?

My Line-X job lasted about 5 months before it started chipping. This was the result of moving a table. Not sure how durable it is. The exposed paint was definitely scuffed.

There have been failures of the cam/lifters on the non MDS versions as well. I don’t think changing out the lifters guarantees anything.

On my 2007 Ram 1500 Laramie quad which now has 216K on my 5,7 with MDS I never feel the shift between 4/8. Only barely see it on the tach. Took it in to local shop for tires and alignment at 178K and got their lifetime alignment. They told me it had no worn out parts and just put it back in spec and put on the new Falken tires. I can't see any wear on those tires. This 1500 front end is solid. Around town I get 16+ and highway is over 20. No complaints here on the Ram. Rides as good as a large sedan.

No telling how old the trucks in question are …
Had a 2002 Dodge that needed $2600 in front end work … but traded it on a 2013 Dodge …
