Considering 2020 Dodge/Ram 2500 gasser

I've never owned a Mopar, but there is some attractive pricing on the 2020 2500s gas engines right now.

10 years ago or so, they were plagued with fragile front ends.

Did that get fixed or is still an issue?

Looking for opinions on current Ram 2500s with the gas engine/8 speed trans.

Specifically, the 4x4 crew cab, 6'4" box in the Tradesman package.

On a RAM get a firm price as many of those incentives you do not qualify for- nobody does
What do you consider a good deal- not to get into your business- but $$$ are important

Thanks for the heads up! I haven't bought a new vehicle in many years.

$39k for a nicely optioned truck is what the preliminary numbers show.

Did you go with the 7.3 gas engine?

Yes I did get the 7.3 in the F250
I am open to all truck brands- not one of those guys
If that price holds up that is a great deal. Mine was a reg Cab XL but had many options on it- a lot truck not a special order.
I was in at $42K but got a crazy trade in amount for a SUV that wasn't worth the extra $3K I got out of it.
I went to look at a Tundra and they gave me that trade in value and I abused Ford with it- lol

I would avoid a ram 3500 but I think you have a good deal
I do not like the RAM rebates- give me the real numbers
I will say Toyota was a refreshing experience- This is the price- no nonsense

It's generally just hard on fuel, lol. But yes, I've heard the same, that the lower output truck version is also quite bad on gas.

Is there a large displacement gas engine in a big, heavy, non-aerodynamic truck that isn't hard on fuel? I've never experienced or heard of one.

Does the 2020 Ram 2500 gasser still have MDS/AFM? I know the older ones did. That is why I ended up whit my 6.0 3500HD gasser. I didn't want to deal with it in the truck I use for towing. I didn't mind in the Caprice as I deleted all of it. Was a deal breaker for me in the trucks.

I looked at all of the 2500's when I bought mine, as I am not brand loyal either. Price is what sold mine. I found some great deals after black Friday. What I didn't think about was the amount I saved with the deal, I lost when I had to pay Personal Property Tax for that year. If I had it to do again, I would have waited another month to buy.

Yes. My understanding is that the current 6.4 engine is MDS.

I have no idea if a person can disable that function or not.

6.4 requires expensive oil changes, look up the Pennzoil 0w-40/MS-12633.

6.4 is not completely immune to the cam/lifter issue either.

Current 2500 is also still a 4th gen with updates; all new 5th gen comes out next year.

At least on paper, in this space, the new Ford 7.3 is king.

ALL newer trucks are overprices especially 4X4 + many really DONT need a TANK as i call them, + IMO the nissan frontier is a decent size for a decent price + older lo milers are a better buy but not cheep + usually have less unneeded junk + less issues! as usual its your choice + your $$$$, shop around + dont be afraid to go to bigger out of town dealers as they are warrantied the same by the "mother" manufacturer wherever you buy + live. happy shopping + good luck!!!

I honestly felt the same way until I had my 5.7 Ram. On the GM's I drove with the 5.3 and AFM it was noticeable and annoying. On my truck I have honestly never been able to tell when it was in 4cyl mode or 8 so I guess I'm converted..

That wasn't the reason, but the GM and Ram MSD/DOD/AFM have had issues with them wiping cams and/or losing lifters. Small percentage but I just didn't want to deal with that on my truck. I removed it from Caprice over a year ago now. If I can chose between no DOD or having DOD. I am taking no DOD every time.

Why no aluminum bed? I haven't really heard of any issues (besides not rusting).

How will you repair a dent in an aluminum bed. My truck gets used, it's not a trophy truck, it gets used for work. Aluminum is not what I want , bed liner won't protect how I use it.

Aluminum will corrode.

I am sure you're well outside the typical user Ford considered when engineering the Super Duty bed.

The new 3/4 ton gassers get a ZF 8 speed which should help fuel economy.
