Coffee - Your Current Brew

I'm looking forward to tying this one. Read some good comments about it. It'll be a few days before the bag is opened, though.

For some variety, I recently decided to change things up from my longtime workday brew of Eight O Clock 100% Colombian Peaks.

I don’t brew specialty beans every day - just on my off days. But I still like to have good coffee to drink on my way to work, and I carry a travel mug for my afternoon break as well. The minimum for me is decently fresh beans, ground the night before, at the longest.

I remembered that last Christmas, I’d received a big bag of Peet’s Organic Alameda Morning Blend medium roast, and enjoyed it quite a bit, so decided to get the Peet’s subscription. They ship the same day that they roast the coffee, or the next day, and it’s a decent price (you get a discount for subscribing).

I chose 3 lbs of the Peet’s Organic Alameda blend, delivered every 6 weeks.

Didn’t take long to arrive, and it was very fresh, having been roasted just a few days prior.

It was good, but not as good as I remember. They call it a medium, but it’s truly a medium-dark, with an emphasis on dark. I believe they have started roasting this darker than what I remember from Christmas 2023 when I first had it.

So after that Alameda ran out, I decided to switch to one of their new light roast blends. The Costa Rica Aurora “light roast” (blend of washed Costa Rican and Kenyan) looked interesting, and at the discounted price for subscribing, works out to about $18/lb to my doorstep.

It’s been shipped, and should arrive in a few days.

Looking forward to trying it! Knowing how Peet’s roasts, I expect it’ll be closer to a medium.

With all the talks about tariffs going on, I just did a big coffee order. I got:

2 x 75 ct Peet's Major Dickason's k-cups
1 x 88 ct Peet's House Blend k-cups
1 x 18 ounce bag of Peet's Organic French Roast
6 x 10.5 ounce bags of Peet's Cafe Domingo
6 x 10.5 ounce bags of Major Dickason's.

I'll keep looking for deals. All of these were Amazon S&S with a few of them offering additional (20%) discounts as first S&S orders. Some as low as $.44 a k-cup and $.54 an ounce.

I think I found my new favorite... ☕ It literally is head and shoulders above anything else I have tried. No burnt taste, very strong, and extremely smooth. I like it best as overnight brew, SO much flavor, yet zero bitterness.

Discovered it on accident, when decided to stop at some Israeli store on a recent road trip. Took it to try, and now I NEED to find some more!!! I literally won't buy anything else, as this amazing coffee is so good, that it ruined all other coffees for me...no regrets. So worth it!!!
If anyone tried this, and somehow found something even better - please let me know. But I highly doubt that's possible. Nothing widely available in stores even comes close to this super fine grounded Turkish Coffee. At least in my experience.
I spotted this at an Asian supermarket yesterday. What exactly is an overnight brew?

Just opened a bag of this from Whole Foods. It's pretty good. I'd liken it more to a French Roast than a dark roast...but still good.View attachment 267308
IT might be too late by the time you see this. I have to order coffee. Our last purchase was 4 lbs of Amazon Dark Roast Whole Bean Feb 17th.
If you remember my wife and I enjoy it very much and here we go again. Not sure if this is temporary but Amazon is out of stock on the 2lbs and the 2-2lbs deal.

It's so weird whenever my wife and I find a coffee we like, after a few orders, it gets hard to buy. Doesnt matter if it is Amazon or Costco, and the one we can still buy "Gold" is $15 a pound and we like the Amazon at $7 just as much.

Anyway, any suggestions? I know you tried a number of Amazon brands keep in mind we do not have Whole Foods or Lidl near us.
If I dont see something I might try Hills Bros Dark but I think that maybe a corporate junk item, not sure. Very frustrating.
Still loving the MoccaMaster though

I know we discussed this and other coffee and that you tried this one. Any suggestions to something simpler in taste and cost?
We just get everything dialed in like we like it with the new brewer and ....

Don't know how close a Costco is to you, but you can't go wrong with either of these. The Colombian Supremo is our go to, the House Blend is excellent too. I like the convenience of the larger amount with the Colombian Supremo though and if I could only pick one whole bean coffee, it would be my choice. Try them both and see which you prefer. The Moccamaster loves both!
They also have a house French Roast...it's the least expensive, but it kind of sucks.

The Columbian Supremo is maybe the one coffee of theirs I didnt try so that is the one we will keep in mind. IN the past I would shy away from the word "Columbian" felt it was too loosely used but being it is Costco Im sure will be true to its meaning.
Thanks ... may try it when we happen to be at Costco, we make limited monthly trips there.

Not sure how cost effective it is but they do sell both online. Might be a wash vs cost of driving.

We like to shop! Our once or twice monthly trip there involves both Costco and Sams Club, just opened is a BJ's (we advent joined yet) too *LOL* All within a mile or two of each other pretty much.
Yes, Costco does offer 2 day delivery on coffee for $3. I see that they also have online a "French Roast"

Options are good and I just checked my Costco online orders. We ordered 2 - 2.5 LB bags of their French Roast in Dec 2024 *LOL* I cant remember it and do not know what happened ... I guess I was looking for a replacement that we liked and Costco stopped selling which was Kirkland Costa Rica. Our last order was Oct 2024 and then they no longer carried it.

My experience with Costco whole bean coffee is that the selection varies by region. The stores seem to routinely stock specific brands/blends and they rotate certain others seasonly. Our local Costco always has the house brand Colombian Supremo, House Blend, French Roast and also Peet's Major Dickasons. Than they rotate Mayorga Cubano Roast and a few others occasionally.
The Peet's Major Dickasons is very good but it's oily and has a lot of chaff and it's the most expensive. But occasionally it's on sale for $5 off. A decent buy at the sale price.

It's cool that you guys get fresh beans from your Costco stores. I've just not had good luck at the Bellingham store. We are the end of the line.

I'm sure the Costco house brand coffees aren't as good as local, specialty roasters. They have a "best of used by date", no 'roasted on" date but for fresh ground daily drip, they are excellent.

"Mayorga Cubano Roast"
We tried this many times, its was good but favored the CostaRica bean... until they completely stopped carrying it. House blend was too mild for us and I am struggling why we didnt buy more of the French Roast after getting 4 or 8 lbs of it at the end of 2024.
Never tried the Columbian so that will be a thought. Just opened the last 2lb bag of Amazon Dark Roast

If you liked the Costco French Roast, it's definitely their least expensive. It was OK but we just like their other blends better and it's worth the extra cost to us.

Yeah, but there was a reason that I cant remember, that we decided to not buy it anymore. At the time we were just looking for a replacement of the Costco Costa Rica that they no longer sell.
For sure I will try the Columbian since you mentioned it. It very well maybe the one coffee On the dark side from them that I have not tired.
