I decided Sumatra is not my cup of joe. May be fine in a Pablo blend but smooth it never seems to be. Flavor adding perhaps. Never tried the TJ variety though.

That may end up being the case here, too. I just didn't want to drive across town to get the beans I originally had in mind, and TJ's has a wide variety of beans available at a good price, so I rolled the dice. If I really don't like it after experimenting a bit, I may use TJ's policy of accepting returns for any reason.

It was enough for me to get rid of most of the full bag. I give up on Starbucks. It generally sucks in any variety.

I wouldn't take some article like that seriously at all. For some reason people like to take jabs at Starbucks because of their politics. Imo if you eliminate everything because of an individual's or company's politics, you might as well live in a cave.
I would agree with that...if I liked the coffee.But it sucks and there are much better choices available. Right now, Costcos French Roast is the best deal price wise...it's OK at best. But I'm sticking with Peets and Costco Colombian Supremo and TJs varieties now and then.

Peets is pretty good for a store bought but I've had better, plus the stores often don't have whole bean Peets.
Not all of it.
I've been disappointed with my last two purchases from Peet's. The coffee didn't taste fresh and there was a lot of chaff in the grind. This saddens me as I've been a customer of Peet's since 1969, when there was but one store in Berkeley. I bought my first Peet's from Mr. Peet himself - Alfred Peet - and I was at the opening of his second store.
Rarely would I buy beans from the supermarket, generally preferring to get them directly from the closest store or through an online purchase. The quality of the store staff seems to have lessened over the years. There are other roasters in the area where I can get my coffee.

I do not believe that the Kirkland Signature Colombian Supremo is a Starbucks roasted product nor are the Sumatran(is still available) and thenewer addition Kirkland French Roast. Those might be from SF Bay Coffee Company. You are correct about the others.

Well, I didn't care for my last purchase which was a Sumatra bean, and today I picked up a bag of Tesora blend from the nearby Philz. I've always enjoyed the coffee at their coffee bars, so bringing home a bag of beans was a logical step. The Tesora is a medium roast described as being smooth, with caramel and vanilla notes. I may try some as an afternoon pick-me-up, but first I've gotta clean the grinder of the last of the Sumatra.
Folgers French Roast. I used to buy the expensive stuff but, I can’t justify spending that sort of money on coffee.

I have noticed a lot of change in Peets since the JAB takeover. That includes Stumptown out of Portland too.
Sumatra was my favorite coffee for many years but no matter which brand I buy it seems the Sumatra has changed.
