Coffee - Your Current Brew

I enjoyed a cup of this blend for breakfast today. The keyword is enjoyed. My previous three purchases were unsatisfactory (2 from Peet's, and one from Trader Joe's). The two blends from Peet's were dull, flat, and old tasting. The grinds showed a lot of chaff. The TJ's coffee was a lot better as far as the roast and apparent freshness were concerned, I just didn't care for it very much ... not a taste that I liked.

This coffee from Philz was bright, lively, much fresher tasting, and, unlike the others, had a nice caffeine jolt ... not too much, but enough to know I was drinking a real cuppa joe. I will definitely explore other blends from Philz.

I have been brewing this for several years now. I like a mild coffee. Don't care for dark roasts as they seem to taste over roasted and burned. I may now begin searching for another brand. Lately the taste has not been the same. Any suggestions for a mild roast?

Dazbog and Vail coffee co. Both local.to Colorado and are fantastic. The Dazbog always seems a little stronger than a couple of the other local roasters.

Vail coffee co, and one of my favorites that is a medium bodied coffee and smooth is Boyers coffee.

I really liked BRC's scout light coffee. Lavazza's Gran Selezione is really good too; it's a dark roast but is grounded up into nearly powder and tastes light with a dark complextion. Also, Peet's luminosa.

What's in your cabinet?

You guys seem to have pretty good taste... One of you guys, I forget who, posted that the Eight 'o Clock Colombian was pretty good, so I picked some up today. It's pretty good - not my favorite, but definitely drinkable. Kinda has what seems to me to be a "vintage" or "old-fashioned" flavor - like, what I expect the average cup 'o joe tasted like from a diner or something, back in the '60s. Kinda a sharp, "bright" edge to it.

Anyway, here's my stash. Had to put my favorite mug in there, ha ha

I agree 8:00 Colombian perks is the best all year round for me. This time of year I like Starbucks, winter blend also

Philz Silken Splendor

After several disappointments with Peet's and another with Trader Joe's Sumatra, I decided to explore Philz's offerings. My most recent prior purchase was Philz's Tesora blend, which I truly enjoyed. This morning, I purchased another of Philz's blends, Silken Splendor, which is also a medium roast. Lately, I find myself drawn to medium-roast coffees rather than the darker roasts which I've preferred for decades.

It was surprising that, when I opened the bag to pour the beans into the grinder hopper, I saw that they were a mixture of two otherwise blended beans. The type of beans is, for now, unknown to me. Here's a pic. Have you ever had or seen a blended blend before?

Located just about two miles to the north of my place is Catahoula Coffe, a cozy cafe and coffee roaster in the North East neighborhood of Richmond where I'll be picking up my next bag o' beans. I was checking their website this morning to see what's offered and came across this ad for their coffee. Maybe you'd enjoy seeing it:
