Coffee - Your Current Brew

I'm slumming it this week.
Ran out of coffee and got a 40oz bag of sams club columbian supremo.
Its medium dark.. and pretty drinkable if "slightly" flat tasting.
Would recommend as an inexpensive coffee to anyone who likes darker not burnt tasting coffee

I have 4 more pounds of bolivian AAA to roast but weather isnt great.

Might also wait until the apr/may crop comes in to buy another 50lb'er
or maybe splurge on a smaller 8 or 10lb bag of something impressive.

Triple shot mochachino

The wife got this for me, and it arrived yesterday.

This is one of the best coffees I’ve ever had, and the kicker is, it’s decaf!

Brewed some tonight, and it’s so cool to be able to enjoy a pourover with some great specialty coffee after work without getting overcaffeinated at night.

Often, the processing to remove the caffeine ruins the coffee, but this uses the chemical-free, Swiss Water Method of decaffeination (pretty interesting how they figured out how to do this), and, I’ll tell you, it’s every bit as good as any regular specialty coffee I’ve had!

They nailed this. I was really impressed. I can actually taste the cola tasting note on the bag. Very sweet coffee.

Brewed on V60, 200°F, setting 4.1 on Fellow Ode, 16:1 (37.5g : 600ml). Total brew time: 4:10.

Never tried Verve, but they have been around awhile and still quite popular.

The way I found out about them was, the wife bought my Flair 58 from Clive Coffee, and a bag of the Verve “Sermon” roast was included. I liked it very much, so, decided to try this decaf, and wow, very glad I did.

I havent historically drank decaf, but sometimes you want to enjoy a pourover or a shot after dinner without being up all night.

Always heard that the processing to remove the caffeine very negatively affects the taste, but I’ll tell you - they nailed this one. Highly recommend.

Havent tried pulling a shot yet, will tonight.

Community Breakfast Blend. My favorite is Jamaican Blue Mountain but that is very pricy. Boss gets Folgers Classic medium at work so my stuff tastes really good when I'm off. I'll probably get Community Dark next time I need some.

Thing with decaf, especially for espresso, is it loses it's edge faster than 'standard'... Based on what I used commercially yrs ago the window of opportunity for standard coffees for espresso that I liked to use was really good from say day 5-12 post roast. Similar decaf started to peak around day 3 and was garbage by day 8 or so. Still consumable, but the texture really faded. Up to that point it extracted nearly identical to 'leaded' coffees. That possibly varies based on green chosen, method of caffeine removal, roast level...

That’s exactly what I’ve heard about decaf.

With regard to regular coffee, I’ve heard that light roasts stay fresh the longest, and the darker the roast, the faster they start to lose flavor.

True for the most part... roasting longer tends to expose more flavor compounds as in closer to the bean surface. Almost like aging the coffee with rate of development. Also tends to cause oil(s) to leach out, which cause darker to go rancid quicker

I can. The Indonesian coffees IMHO are best when mixed with a brighter coffee. These are both good by themselves but the Ethiopian is better by itself than the Java. Certain Indonesian's are not a good match to make Moka Java, as they are too sweet. This is what [email protected] told me in a phone conversation.

A local grown would be nice

Lower acid medium dark full body

Most Hawaii coffee is pretty sharp
Have u tried the Organic Bolivian at Trader Joe's. It's roasted med-dark .It doesn't have the burnt taste. Enjoyed a couple times a year. Don't go to TJ"s as much anymore. They have either discontinued or jacked up the prices on many of my regularly purchased items. So the 60 mile round trip is less frequent.
