CNN Article on Motor Oil Shortage

When we were kids nearly every family I knew had a garden, canned the fresh produce, had some fruit trees, and further canned farm products in the fall.

Not seeing this much anymore. Seems family gardens have been replaced by smartphones.

Such I digress.
We did - will get into more of that post retirement …

I guess I will go with Foxtrot08 opinions and reality. He has had some opinions with worse possible outcomes then what some here, have as opinions. And what I at least see him doing is, pulling back the hysteria, and being measured in his comments.

Here’s why China wants to get off oil, but having said that, they are where the USA was in 2005 before horizontal multi frac technology was applied.
Mods, I did a screen shot as a quick visual to show the situation.

I was at two different Wally World stores in SE Michigan this week (Wednesday and today) and the shelves were full. Several brands were on sale. Why would they offer a sale if supplies are about to run out?
Yes, this surprises me also. Amazon keeps delivering Mobil 1 0W-40.

Apparently its only the very thin grades that are at issue thus far - 0W-8 and 0W-16? Something to do specifically with the base stock that has been disrupted.

Went to Walmart earlier, To pick up another heating pad for my aching back (More my hip really but who's counting). The Motor oil isle was pretty spartan, there was some Supertech still available (0w16 and 0w20 were gone though) , Valvoline was gone, Pennzoil was gone, Mobil had a few weights left, mostly things like motorcycle 10w40 and automotive 10w30 oil, I saw a few jugs of quaker state left. Oil filter section was basically in the "scavenger" style of stockage...ie.. oil filters just placed where ever since the stock was so low. Just my observation from my local wally world. You're mileage will vary.

I have a conspiracy theory...lol
I'd think that the oil companies would want to discount the oil, while they can, to keep you on the road buying their fuel.

Just walked through our Walmart oil lane. Almost all of the Mobil 1 and Castrol choices on Roll Back. Others, including Pennzoil and Valvoline up slightly …
Filter section was still building out - but clearly turning to Mobil 1 and Purolator. There were left over Fram and SuperTech filters.
The other thing growing was the OEM filters - AC Delco, Mopar, Motorcraft, and Toyota …
