Classic Scout is coming back

like CVT's NO electric or even Hybrids!!! what VW needs to build are small lo cost gas powered pickups, getting a hot selling mavrick compeditor would be SMART!!!
WhenI worked sales for a VW dealership years ago we had top brass from the Chattanooga plant come out. I told them how many customers said flat out if they started selling the Amarok truck they'd show up with cash or a check. VW would have printed money. I was serious. They kinda said ahh cool. Instead we got a mediocre passat with no AWD, no manual transmission, no performance version just bland.

They also have a Transit-esque/Sprinter-type van all over Mexico. "Overlanders" would trample each other to buy one here.

I think they sold rebranded sprinters in the states or maybe Europe and called them crafters

I've always wanted an amarok. Diesel manual of course

The idea that VW thinks selling an electric "Scout" will somehow evoke the heritage of the original seems unlikely to me. Generally speaking, the Jeep off-roading community wants nothing to do with electric vehicles, so I expect that if this thing sells, the buyers will be urban know-nothings.

I'm totally confused.

I remember the International Scout. But I have no recollection of Volkswagen ever

The Sprinter and Crafter were built side by side and badged MB or VW. The second generation is a separate design snd is also sold as an MAN with some cosmetic changes. MAN is a commercial/utility vehicle manufacturer.

it's just too bad they decided to put the plant in SC, instead of Ft.Wayne, IN, where the scouts were built..
As a SC taxpayer, I agree. VW (like BMW, Volvo, Mercedes Sprinter befor them) is getting big tax concessions to build this plant. I guess employment is good but I'm not sure the plusses outweigh the minuses

If there were no tariffs on the importation of light duty pickups they would've been sold here.

Good point.

It is also too bad that they did not decide to build a real Jeep Wrangler competitor with a gasoline engine as well as the electric one. Surely, they saw the feeding frenzy when Ford re-introduced the Bronco.
