Advance Auto Parts to close 700+ stores.

If you do your homework with looking up your own part numbers, instead of asking the counter guy who frankly doesn't give a hoot anymore, I've been cleaning up on parts for all my cars. 95% off on everything behind the counter has been amazing.
Denver/Springs area?

Rock auto is a big enough parts retailer to where I'd be surprised if they didn't have a direct agreement with ngk to sell their stuff on their site. But anything's possible.
Rock Auto does not have any stores or warehouses it signs up distributors already in the business and they are just a sales program and it ships from the same warehouse that may supply your local auto parts store.

I’ve always felt AAP had way too many stores.
And now some further news validating your point:

In November 2024, the retailer announced it would shutter 523 corporate-owned locations, exit 204 independent locations, and close four distribution centers mainly on the West Coast.

In the same month, it finalized a deal to sell its Worldpac wholesaler business to investment firm Carlyle for $1.5 billion. It called this sale a strategic part of its “simplification” process.

Now, Advance Auto Parts has begun to sell off some of those stores, announcing they have put 200 leased locations and 24 owned locations up for sale.

A major part of Advance Auto Parts’ issue is that it has too many locations across the country. Its over 4,900 locations beat out even that of Walmart — which has just over 4,000 locations in the U.S. according to 2024 numbers. And since the former sells stuff primarily for cars and trucks — the niche retailer has too much property to run and maintain for it to be a profitable business.

Hilco Real Estate is helping to manage the store sales. The sales will take place across 46 U.S. states.

I wish there was a list of the locations! I'd probably be willing to take a road trip to stock up on some stuff! I haven't heard about any closing locally to me in MA...or even New England for that matter.
Honestly, anyone have any speculation why a list of stores closing simply doesn’t exist and when one is posted it gets deleted? (Bro on x had lists and the account has been locked)

I have witnessed many downsizings over the ”internet years” and this is the first time you google “list of aaps closing” and get absolutely nothing.

Almost like a conspiracy but to what end? Don’t want all the parts sold?

The local counter guys knew if you chatted them up. Local news also reported the locations (Houston) circumstantially. What is odd is how things went down in my area. 2 stores right now are cleared out, but another that is location-ally much further away has quite a bit of stuff left. Trying to figure out how they do things with a clearance is going to have you chasing your tail. What was apparent (and my neighbor shared) was that the discounts were a gradual rise by week, and now they are straight up 95% off near everything. They probably wont do more then that. The fixtures (shelves etc) are likely already sold or will be without much hassle.

20 years ago, there was only one AAP within 15 miles of my home. I was already a dedicated Rock Auto customer, but when I needed something immediately, I usually dealt with them. There are now four AAP stores in that radius, including one that opened last year.

Until 5 years ago, there was one last independent parts store and a very good place to go. It even had an attached machine shop at one time, like most of them did. The owners sold to open a small food mart. A NAPA store took their place and was closed within 3 years. It didn't help that they were only 4 miles from a long-established NAPA.

Finally went to the closeout sale. Castrol GTX white bottle $5 quart. Hard pass. The parts are dirt cheap but the computer stock is so messed up it's nearly impossible to get what you need. I left empty handed after wasting 40min or so having the guy look up parts, shows in stock then not. At this point it's mostly shops buying bags full of random parts. A lot are 90% off if you can find anything useful.
Thanks to Advance A P we now lost Pep Boys and Car Quest as well. Now I'm glad they are gone. I hope someone comes in to fill the void.
