The 2010 and '11 YARIS you get A.B.S. , V.S.C. , T.C. , and side / curtain ( fr.& r. ) airbags standard . The 2008 the A.B.S. and side airbags were an extra option .

The one thing that really bugs me about the Cruse ECO, is that they used the smaller fuel tank to save weight.

IMO, one of the benefits of a high mpg vehicle, IS less stops at the gas station!

Dumb idea!!!!

I bet someone in Marketing wanted to be able to use some catchy ad phrase that it takes less than X dollars to fill the tank.

I would guess it has more to do with providing a very similar range vs the non eco model. While at the same time shaving 18 pounds of weight to gain a little efficiency.

Range with 15.6 gallons for the non eco models at EPA hwy rating is about 560 miles.
Range for the eco model with 12.6 gallons is about 530 miles.

Your Fit has what, a 10.6 gallon gas tank. For a range of about 400 miles. Tell me, how much of a factor was the size of the gas tank in your buying decision?

I know it's not true of the guys around here, but you would be shocked at the number of people who discuss mileage in terms of miles per tank. Never taking the time to do the actual math to arrive at a real and meaningful number. For that reason alone, the manufacturers have learned that the general public has a preference for a vehicles range. Seriously, I know it sounds stupid, but plenty of money has been spent to determine most people dont like a range below 400-500 miles or so...if you do the reverse math, you will see that many cars have a tank sized to achieve this range when factoring in their average mileage per gallon.

That way they could go further before refueling. It's kinda nice to go further on the same size tank.

We didn't look at the tank size when buying, but did strongly look at the fuel economy numbers.

YARIS gas tank is 11.2 gallons . Don't care for the bars for gas gauge . Give me a needle with a big E and F .

Why? Stopping for fuel is actually a waste of fuel, and time.

I can think of better things to do then stop for gas.

As for the small weight difference, most people could loose that much off their body, and reap even more benefits.

An interesting point. I know it sounds silly, but one of the things that disappoints me about my Cobalt is that it doesn't have any greater range per tank than the car it replaced, despite the Cobalt doing 5 or more MPG better. The tank sizes are what makes the difference.

I guess in city driving or stop and go, there is some very small mpg benefit to a smaller tank. In my area though its not unusual to have gas price variations of 7 to 10% in a week so I'd save money by buying at the low points and not filling until a low price comes again.

I came real close to buying a Mazda6 i Sport with a 6 speed MT last night. However, it wasn't the color I wanted and the dealership refused to give me the same price on the one I test drove in the color I wanted. They gave me a bunch of [censored] that they can't order it. I told them to drop the price $1000 as a concession and they didn't budge so I left. I went there twice to test drive (an auto and then last night a 6spd). You should have seen the salesman's face...last night of the month at 7pm and I walk out. Too bad, it isn't my problem they didn't have the color I wanted...if it's in the brochure as advertised a customer should not have to pay more. The MSRP is the same for all color choices.

Apparently, the Mazda dealerships around here say 2-3 months to order one which I can't really wait for as my Saturn needs repairs. The dealerships are also unwilling to even look for one at other dealerships. So much for getting what you want when you buy a new car... I have been considering the Chevy Cruze Eco 1.4T. I will test drive this next...and of course shoot for the 6spd MT. There are lots of them around here in the exact color and trim I want. The dealership that gets what I want at a fair price gets my business...period.
