If you change your oil at or around 5000 miles do you change the filter just once? Or do you change or try change it say 2500 miles? Reason asking i change my oil around 5000 miles. Today i cut the filter and the pleats are very very oily. So wondering if be better change around 2500 miles.

I dare you to dip a toe into the oil filter portion of the forum...

But barring some unique issue with the engine that would overload the filter and cause it to run in bypass, it should be fine for multiple runs. The only other thing to consider is if there is a defect with the filter such as torn pleats or leaking bypass valves (and there are... dip the toe...) then you are running in that state for longer than you otherwise would changing it out with the oil.

I don't have the same for all... Cummins will get a new filter at the change as the intervals are loooong, unless not, then up to 20k, i guess. It's expensive, so no expense spared. The Sienna gets an independent OCI and FCI, 5K oil, 10k filter, not in sync. Honda and Yamaha call for every other, Honda gets up to 3 OCIs usually as I change the oil sooner than it wants ( fuel loading). The Jeep will not likely get a filter change ever again unless there is an engine overhaul/major failure, it just sits. Know your equipment, and your parts, act accordingly. 2.5K mile interval would only cross my mind.... not even in desert operation, why?

I change both at the same time usually every 4-5k miles.

I always changed the filter at the OCI but my OCI's are 5k miles using a 10k mile oil filter. I might try every other oil change. My '67 Dodge Van manual calls for filter change every other oil change.

I use many-a-known good oil filters(respected here at BITOG) and run my filters for 2X. Typically running each oil change between 5K-6K miles(10K-12K miles total) in the everyday-ness of a lot of run-in'-round!
And in some instances where we've done more open hiwy miles(long trips/get-a-ways, travel out of state), of course, I'll go even further on my OCI's, totaling around 15K-16K miles of usage on a single filter(2 OCI's)...for those seasonal vacations.
And too, there are some instances where I'll use the filter only 1X, e.g., getting a lesser quality filter with an oil change bundle at the parts store.

I mean, we each know our own vehicles, driving style, habits & climate/season.
A lot of people think believe that the oil remaining in the filter is a big deal when in fact there is more oil remaining in the engine that we can't remove by draining alone. I've never seen any of my filters clogged up when opening them after the 2X.
And argument can be made for changing the filter for each OCI and I've gone back & fourth over the years only to end up once again, using the filter 2X.

I've cut open a few of my oil filters with 4 to 7k mileage on them from every vehicle in my sig plus an old Onan on my garden tractor, and I've universally found that they still have plenty of filtration capability left. Unless your engine is about to grenade itself, you should not be seeing much contamination.

Most contamination I saw was on the 3.6 Pentastar in the Jeep after about 5k miles on the oil and 10k on the filter. Mostly varnish being filtered - the "clean" side of the paper still looked good though, so I have no concerns about filtration quality. This engine is still on its first oil cooler/filter body and due to the Pentastar issues, I change the filter every other oil change so it worked out to a bit over 2 years on the filter and 20 months on the oil. Timing on the OCI/FCI was a bit long due to not driving it a lot over the last couple years.

I'd be more worried if the opposite was true.

I'd do the exact opposite if using a premium filter I'd be tempted to run it 2x oci.. since my oci are usually 4000-5000 miles.
but its a top mounted oil filter and stupid easy to change so not happening.

Now the 2020 ram hemi with its AWFUL filter placement I'd be more tempted but it will get a new oil filter every change.. as I am not the owner just the maintainer.

It's an oil filter. One would expect the pleats to be oily. What exactly are you trying to convey?
