5000 mile oil filters

You don't see those 'wide pleats' on $2 Prime Guard/Premium Guard filters. Are the domestic filter makers trying to save 5 cents worth of filter material? For this reason I'm hesitant to use an 'entry level' Fram, Purolator etc...
Any filter with really wide pleat spacing has the potential to tear media, unless the media is wire or nylon backed.

Also, If I'm not mistaken, the 5K STP filters are often identical to the ST 10K filters. I doubt the filter media is different so why does WM rate theirs 10K while AZ (STP) rate theirs 5K?
Hard to say exactly how each manufacturer comes up with an "up to xyx miles" use rating. All kinds of factors can effect the mileage rating, but the holding capacity should be the main factor.

If you need to go 5k use Amsoil filters
Does this apply to certain vehicles only? I have a 2018 Ram 1500 Hemi that I do 5,000-5,500-mile oil changes on but Amsoil posted a bulletin a while back about not recommending their EA15k50 filter due to it plugging up too quickly, I think.

Another load of mule nuggets is 5,000 mile filters aren’t meant to be used with synthetic oils.
So is that only at long intervals or just period? I run full synthetic in my 2018 Ram 1500 Hemi but I try to change my oil between 5,000 and 5,500 miles. Matter of fact, I was told recently by a Wix rep that if I’m only going 5,500 miles at most on my oil changes that their plain Wix 57060 filter would be the better choice because since it’s not a long OCI filter like the 57060XP, the non-XP actually filters out smaller particles than the XP version because it’s not meant to go as long of OCI’s and that that’s why the XP version doesn’t filter like the plain one so that it can go the longer OCI distance.
