Changed Airfilter, found airbox open!!!

Hey guys. I just picked up a new Napa Gold air filter for $16. I checked my old air filter out a month ago. It was in need of replacement, so I odered the Napa gold.

About 3 weeks ago, I took my car in for recall work(you may have read about that in my other post) and they had to remove my intake to make it easy to get my coil pack.
Well the Ford guy did not put my airbox back right.

I went to take the rear clips off, They were allready undone!!!

I have been driving for about 3 weeks with half my airbox unclipped letting unfiltered air get by

I guess Im gonna cut this oilchange (freebie German Castrol) a little short. I will probaly dump it at 4500-5000 miles(instead of my 6-7K OCI). (I only have about 2000 miles on it now)

Not going to affect much. I drove a mustang for 3 months with no air filter! It was a loud cone filter the dealer did work on car and forgot to put it back on! Car still went 240000 before I sold it.

Can you pull a used oil analysis? If there is not elevated Si or other bad signs, the oil may still be usable.

Still your idea is good practice...

Call the dealership, and explain your situation to the service manager. I'm sure that he/she will reimburse you for the cost of your oil and filter, allowing you to change it now.

you will know why I am never going back to that place!!! This little mishap was just the Iceing on the cake!!!!!


Anyway, The German Castrol was a freebie from a friend, I usally run Redline.

I doubt they'd pay me $10 a quart for my usual Redline.

I am just so anal,

I would rather change it out early, then see how far I can run it.

I couldn't find my Oakley sunglasses for like two weeks. I was getting mad.

Yesterday I removed my intake to access the throttle body. When I pulled away the airbox lid, I discovered what happened to my sunglasses.

They were laying on top of the air filter (unharmed).

I would stay away from dealer washes, unless you want swirl marks all over your vehicle.

Not surprising....

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen with a dealership and a cabin filter. They pretty much demanded I pay for them to change it, and I told them I'd do it. I went to change it a week later and it wasn't there. The car was either built without one, or they removed it. They wouldn't answer my question when I asked which it was...

Yes, I've found Oakleys to be less restrictive than Raybans, they improve gas mileage on my vehicles.

I think it's a good idea to change it unless you feel like waiting for a used oil analysis. If you're going to change early due to possible contamination, why wait another 2,000 miles to do so?
