Can you add LC20 at anytime?

Maybe a silly question but can you add LC 20 to your oil at anytime? I'm going to change my oil this weekend and the LC 20 I ordered on Friday more than likely will not get here by then (the FP 60 I ordered on New Years Eve didn't arrive until Jan 19th

If I'm about 500-1000 miles into my change how much should I add?

per LC20 website:

"The recommended treatment rate of LC for engine lubes in 4-cycle gasoline or Diesel engines is 1 0z./Quart for the initial dose, and 1
oz. every 1,000 miles or 1,610 km. Do not overfill crankcase."
 
Ok sounds good, so I take that to mean that it doesn't matter as far as miles on the oil, just whenever I get it add 4 oz (4qt sump)

That's what I did. I waited until my truck had 3000 miles on it (sufficient brake-in time before using LC20). At that point I put in 5oz of LC20 (4.5qt. sump). I put have put in 1oz every 1000 miles thereafter. I changed out the factory fill last week and added 5oz. Just follow the directions and you'll be all set. However, you may want to get a UOA before long just to fine tune the proper doseage - might be less, might be more than what the instructions say.

I recently started using LC20 in my Mazda with 45,000 miles on the clock. My engine ran smoother almost immediately. It also looks as though my fuel economy has improved, but I have a few tanks yet to prove this. My gas mileage and engine performance both definitely improved with FP60, and that's what gave me so much confidence in LC20. I can't wait for my next UOA!
 
LC can be added at any time and work quite nicely.


That is if you like to reduce cF and oxidation, using colloidal carbon as a lubricant.

Quantify with oil analysis and butt dyno/mpg readings.

I am curious about all the cF modification properties of LC. I am a current user but you have recently started to tout this advantage. I believe that PCMO FM's are normally Animal fats or fatty acids that are used up but just in time for the VI's to shear down to maintain the initial economy.
I am not doubting the colloidal carbon lubrication properties but the very terminology strikes me as too close to certain other companies(with negative reputations) marketing terms.

Perhaps you can elaborate to put at ease the minds of people who may associate "colloidal" with some products that have less than outstanding reputations (Slick 50/graphite oil additives

and the lube for life stuff).
 
Bryan, I have studied 60 year old data that supports this comment. I have not been allowed by LCD to elaborate on it.

For instance Bob Winters (original BITOG Bob) tested
LC with the Timken bearing tester ( "one armed bandit" ) and was amazed at the EP capability of LC to back that idea up.

Reduction in wear values in LC added oils in UOA is good backup to what I am saying and shareallowable.

As the company develops you will see more ASTM data that can be shared.
 
Your word is Golden Terry. I am certain many have pent up intelectual curiosity concerning the product.
I have 30 k on a Mitsubishi I bought as a program car with 6k on it. All but one interval was with LC since. The valve train I can see very easily through the huge filler hole in the cast aluminum valve cover is cleaner looking than when we bought it with only 6k on it. I know 30k aint much but normallly I am accustomed to engine parts getting darker by this point.


I am looking forward to the future when ASTM data is out there and LC is mainstream.

Lower insolubles, lower solids, lower wear rates, steady vis vs.design, lower oxidation ( this is a biggy, how it does it is still being studied),lower nitration.

LCD is spending the money on updating testing as this is written so stay tuned.

I still have only ever publicly associated my name with two products , Auto-RX and LC/FP and sadly I interpret R&D test data from many others.
 
Your word is good enough for me Terry! I just called Jeff at LCD and received the "good guy" pricing. I can't wait to start using both products.

BTW - does it make a difference if LC20 is added to synthetic oil vs. dino?
 
KC Strip- the only difference I see of adding LC to synthetic vs dino is loooong OCI's. That is, if your into that thing.

LC + Havoline for example, depending on your driving style, somewhere between 8-10K miles

LC + Mobil1, more like 15K+ op
 
Just for the record, I added it to what was supposed to be a new fill about a month after I got the car. It now has about 6000 kms on the oil, and its getting changed tomorrow. $8 filter coming off, and a $1.26 filter going on. We will see how the generic Japanese filter held up. How much junk came out thanks to LC. Must say that the oil is nice and dark.
