When I was a kid growing up in Albuquerque, I watched the Unsers race jalopies at the old Cormit Speedway on south Wyoming near the north entrance to what is now Sandia National Laboratory/Kirtland AFB. These races were well attended as there wasn't much in the way of entertainment in Albuquerque in those years. None of us had the cost of admission so we crawled over the fence. Midget racing arrived in the late forties. I know, I know, who cares?
