Bizarre Experience At AAP

I was having a battery slow charged at the AAP. Came to pick it up this morning.

I noticed there were a dozen different used batteries available so I decided to try to take a picture so that I could remember the sizes.

The associate told me I couldn't do it. I told him that it was my own phone and I wasn't doing anything other than using the picture to remind me what sizes were available. He just started staring me down for a good thirty seconds.

I didn't take the pic but I'm definitely not going back. As someone who has spent thousands there I'm frankly shocked that they would bother me. Maybe they wanted to make sure folks weren't aware of their prices, but the used batteries are still a pretty good deal at $42.

AAP used to be the only place I'd go.
Now it is the last place I'll go.
Even Auto Zone is better. However, I tend to go to NAPA more.
Staff seems to know about their product, and they focus more on customer service rather than playing grabby-rump with each other.
I used to almost exclusively shop at Advance Auto Parts but I had a set of brake pads wear quicker than they should and wear unevenly. I used a 15% off code online as a year and a half back I think they were lifetime pads. I had to order online for the deal which was weird. Apparently AAP (According to a couple of managers) doesn't link their online orders to their store which is odd as I had to pick them up in store. Of course I didn't keep the receipt.

Since they no longer take discount codes for batteries i prefer Oreilly's, but AAP is more convent here in TN.

I had a guy blow a deal on a carb because he had an attitude, i was literally about to buy it and he had something smart to say so i walked out. I don't even think they carry carbs anymore in store (Holley)

I sorta wonder if this guy was running some kinda side hustle as ive never seen used batteries at AAP.

I've never seen used batteries at any reputable parts retailer.

Probably because of shoplifters known on the street as a booster. A buyer will sometimes take a pic of something he wants boosted, text the pic and the booster will attempt to steal it for him.

Yep.

Many businesses do not want someone taking photos, even hospitals don’t want photos being taken.

I would have whipped out my notebook and made a list, including the associate’s name-so I could call HQ in Roanoke and tell them how “great of a job” their salesman was doing at running off customers…

Something has changed at AAP Over the past 4 or 5 years. Customer service is RUDE at best and prices are the highest around. There are three women five miles of my house one of them has closed and it appears that the other one is ready to close. All three of them have AutoZone nearby

I wound up purchasing a DieHard silver battery from Firestone and it was $40 cheaper than I'd AutoZone installed free

That does sound a bit bizarre, but there might be a reason. Surprised that you allowed a low wage parts picker stare you down.
I used to do online orders with AAP all of the time back in the glory days of generous discount codes, but no longer bother.
I'm also down to two newer cars that have needed little, so my need for parts in general has declined to near zero.
