Autozone and walmart ocasionally have some. I assume they are returns from peopie that bought a battery instead of an alternator.I
I've never seen used batteries at any reputable parts retailer.

If it makes you feel any better, the warranty claim may be rejected for any reason. I bought a set of assembled brake calipers with 'limited lifetime warranty' right before the parts were rebranded to Carquest. Four years later, one caliper seized after less than 10K miles. Since it was during covid, it was untouched because I don't drive that car much anyway. After covid, I took the caliper back to AAP and the employee said it has been too long so it's all wear and tear, which is not included in the limited lifetime warranty. He also offered to read me the definition of the limited part. I personally don't think it should be called a lifetime warranty if time is the disqualifying factor.I used to almost exclusively shop at Advance Auto Parts but I had a set of brake pads wear quicker than they should and wear unevenly. I used a 15% off code online as a year and a half back I think they were lifetime pads. I had to order online for the deal which was weird. Apparently AAP (According to a couple of managers) doesn't link their online orders to their store which is odd as I had to pick them up in store. Of course I didn't keep the receipt.
Thete are secret shoppers out there hired by private companies and corporate headquarters. Maybe they thought he was one of those. Many stores don't want to allow photography. Maybe it's to prevent competition price checking/ shopping. Maybe it's to "protect" their employees, or stave off unionizing. Maybe it's their property and they simply feel like it.
I take cell phone pics of the nuts and bolt shelf labels at Lowes and HD. Makes checkout faster. Haven't been called out on it.

It's interesting they don't take brake fluid. I've been adding it to my used engine oil for years. Not the first weird event at AAP. I used to go to our local one, loved chatting with Randy, an older guy whose daughter was an F-15E WSO.
Since Randy retired, there are a bunch of bozos working there.
Had a manager get upset with me for pouring used Transmission fluid in the waste oil container. He yelled at me, told me I had “contaminated” the container, the he would have to pay big fines, and on and on, then told me I should know better.
He told that it was posted on the container.
I waited for the tirade to end. Then suggested that we walk back, and look at it together.
It said, “Engine oil, gear oil, transmission fluid only. No brake fluid or coolant”.
He didn’t even apologize for being so wrong…
I’m not sure why. But it’s a common prohibition here. It's interesting they don't take brake fluid. I've been adding it to my used engine oil for years.
"Is this used engine oil?" "Yes."
It doesn't mean they can stop you.Yep.
Many businesses do not want someone taking photos, even hospitals don’t want photos being taken.
They sell it to recycling, so my guess is “Engine oil, gear oil, transmission fluid are hydrocarbons, and antifreeze and brake fluid are alcohols, they don't want them mixed, or whomever is taking them, likely to burn, doesn't want it mixed? Just a guess.I’m not sure why. But it’s a common prohibition here.

I don’t mix it.
I store it in the used brake fluid containers, and drop it off at our city Hazmat desk/shed at the landfill next time I’m making a run down there.
The City of Virginia Beach makes it easy. The landfill is open Tuesday-Saturday. The Hazmat site is open during normal hours, so, paint, solvents, fluorescent bulbs, brake fluid, etc. can be dropped off conveniently.
They take used motor oil as well, so, often, if I am making a run down there, I just bring it all, and I don’t have to deal with morons, like the AAP manager.
You think boosters are a problem in auto parts stores? Wonder if they’d steal a jug of oil and sell it to me at half price?Probably because of shoplifters known on the street as a booster. A buyer will sometimes take a pic of something he wants boosted, text the pic and the booster will attempt to steal it for him.
I'd ask if it was store policy and where the "no pix or video" signs were that I must've missed. No signs, I'd go on with taking pix if I wanted to. If they have policies customers are not made aware of then it's their problem. If they become aggressive with threat of physical altercation then warm them you will call cops and turn on video recording; tell them you don't want problems but their behaviour may be considered an assault with legal consequences.I was having a battery slow charged at the AAP. Came to pick it up this morning.
I noticed there were a dozen different used batteries available so I decided to try to take a picture so that I could remember the sizes.
The associate told me I couldn't do it. I told him that it was my own phone and I wasn't doing anything other than using the picture to remind me what sizes were available. He just started staring me down for a good thirty seconds.
I didn't take the pic but I'm definitely not going back. As someone who has spent thousands there I'm frankly shocked that they would bother me. Maybe they wanted to make sure folks weren't aware of their prices, but the used batteries are still a pretty good deal at $42.
Nope. They know me. The manager and I are friends. The fellow is pretty much the only one who would take the job that is older than 25.Thete are secret shoppers out there hired by private companies and corporate headquarters. Maybe they thought he was one of those.
Some retailers are so desperate for employees they have to lower their standards.
Bad attitudes really don’t surprise me anymore.
This.It doesn't mean they can stop you.
