benefits to a .40/.357 sig vs. 9mm/.45

As I said, I would want to be shot with that 147gr way before a 230gr .45 ACP Hydra-Shok. As would anyone.

Yes, just the .45 is more effective.

When you shoot someone, you want to stop them. A bigger, heavyer bullet has more "stopping" power.

What one would you personally like to get shot with, if you had to choose??? You would have a better chance with the 9mm.

that depends on who the more educated shooter is. You get someone who has the tried and true .45ACP, doesn't feel like spending time to educate himself, and he buys some roundy roundy JHP. You have to admit that's awesome expansion from the 9mm HST.

how about anything .380 or larger, with laser grips? actually some people might be better off with a revolver, yes less capacity, but if more than one shot is needed, there is almost no chance the user will have to clear a malfunction---whether it is from ammo feeding, the gun, or user-related (limp wristing).
