Good? Bad? Meh? I can get a number of Baldwin B1402 filters on clearance at a local industrial supply shop, about 2.25ea.

Are Baldwin "good" filters? Would they be comparable to say the regular Purolator Premium Plus? FWIW application is a Ford Duratec 3.0l.

When this has come up before the answer has been an apathetic "average". they aren't cheap or expensive or exclusive or easy to find. nothing there for BITOGers to argue about.

I use them on my own vehicles.

I always thought Baldwin was as good as a Wix and that is a lot better than most filters, except for M1, Amsoil, and other very high end filters.

Unlike Wix, they have more than one line of filter. Some are the HPG line (high performance glass).

I've used Baldwin filters for quite some time on stationary engines and automotive engines with no complaints. Good, very solid filter. I contacted Baldwin for specifications on four of their filters for automotive use. On average the Beta ratios were: Beta 2/18, Beta 75/40, Established micron rating- 18, Average efficency - 74.65%.

So Gary, would you say that B2-HPG is the equivalent of the Donaldson P169071?. I would really like to know since the B2-HPG costs about $7.00 Dlls. less than Donaldson. ($18.46 vs. $11.50)

I dunno

I've never used one ..and never seen one tested/torn apart. It's a magnitude better than their standard offering, which is considered decent. It's probably on par with M1.

The one I used on the Jeep was a B34, it has a larger than usual spring on the closed end compared to other filters, I do not know if it is a draw back or not but the ADBV is nitrile, with regular oil changes that probably does not matter but for longer drain intervals it might, actually I thought this was the nicest filter for quality I have disassembled, They can be hard to locate, for me the drive is not to bad but to get a decent price I have to buy them by the case.

I have used the B2-HPG on my Cherokee and taken it apart after use to look inside. My UOA was great with it and my observations on disassembly were positive to say the least. My only reservations on this brand are the "short tubing" design on some of their offerings.Other than that Baldwin oil filters are good products.
