Are all SuperTech ST series filters "Encore"?

Saw some SuperTech filters at Walmart (which is mostly Fram-Land), the ST3950 for my car is at least a half-quart bigger than OEM, PureOne, or Prem-Plus. It's huge by comparison.

What gives, is it a decent filter? Is it automatically an "Encore" if it's SuperTech?

No.

Super Tech uses both the E-core style and standard metal end caps and center tube type filters. It just depends on the individual part number.

E-core is limited to certain "popular" part numbers because Champ Labs only has 1 production line capable of running that style filter...for now.

No cardboard, eh? How are they doing it for a lousy 2 bucks? Crummy media? The thing feels as substantial as a PureOne, weight-wise, anyway.

What he said! A Fram is half the filter compared to a Champ Labs and almost twice the cost.

I have cut up a bunch of ST 3950's and equivilents. Only really 2 stood out, Fram, very poor last, and AC half again more media than second best. Even the pricy hastings was mid pack. The ST 3950 switched to a clicker type dome end bypass at least a year ago. Since I haven't seen an AC PF 1177 in a long time, I see no reason not to go with the ST. Well, I can be bribed. My truck now has a free after rebate STP.

Well, that's encouraging. I recently did a whole 15 oz. of VSOT into my last OC of Mobil 1 and it thickened it up pretty good. I went ahead and did a couple thousand mile road trip to Tampa, plus mileage around here, changed it out at 3000, and put in Super Tech 5w30 supposedly SM-rated Dino and the aforementioned Super Tech3950 filter to see if I could tell any difference in starting or smoothness. Cold start is nice and quiet, but he11, there's probably still so much VSOT in there I could run water and it'd be smooth.

I think I'll run this OC out to 3000 miles and do a used oil analysis on it. If I can get those peeps to send me the sample bottles. Written em twice, and noooo dice!

I know the regular Super Tech3593 filter hasn't changed to an ecore yet, I've noticed another application that I use has though Super Tech3387. Super Tech filters are still good filters IMO.
