The new Supertech 9972 (Toyota cartridge filter) is rather impressive

I was checking out filters at Walmart today and I inspected the new version of the Supertech 10k rated 9972 made for Toyotas. I was impressed.

It’s wire backed, has a metal crimp seam, very good pleat spacing, and perfect gluing.

The box says it’s still rated 99% at 30 microns, but given what I’m seeing here I wouldn’t be surprised if it were actually better than that and they just haven’t changed the printing on the boxes. This is about the closest thing I have found to the Fram Endurance and Amsoil filters. And it’s only $3.

Here are some pics:

And for comparison here’s a Fram Endurance with less even pleat spacing and sloppier glue:

Think I've seen a wire backed Super Tech before but that must of been a different part number than this model number. Champ advertises most of their filters 99%@30 but individual ones might be better or worse lol. Is this a smaller filter?

Here you go! Definitely nicer than the last Fram I got which is why I didn't hesitate to grab these when you posted it. $2.97 each and made in the USA.

It appears these are actually the older style. They’re still decent, but they lack the wire backing, metal crimp, and white media of the new ones.

This is an interesting data point. The boxes are identical, and both picture the older style.

Not that impressive is it?
99 at 30 microns isn't super duper efficiency but Champ seems to strike a balance with their own & most of their reseller brands where cost is a concern. That rating get's most OEM's through the oil drain interval while offering good overall constructed filters at good prices. Just bought a Super Tech for $3.84 lol. It doesn't have the silicon ADBV but 10k mileage rating at that price is a good bargain in today's world.
What do you say?

Downside would be if Champ purchased bulk media that is less efficient (such as what was used in Wix XP) and is using it on the cheaper filters.

Any way to tell for sure that this is the good media used in the more expensive filters?
