I keep getting worse, I used to be cheaper but am finding lifestyle creep as I get older. At least its a slow creep.I haven't really changed anything, the wife and I have always been frugal.

None of my vehicles need DEF. There’s sufficient supply of these great vehicles to not be a concern for the next 20 years. And on top of buying diesel fuel a subset also need to buy DEF. About $15 for 2.5 gallon jug.
It is easier to be mad about something and blame others than to actually do something about it.I found it idiotic how fast people drove before gas spiked.
I find it dumber now. Supposed value of time in the car or not… speed and power are a cubic relation.
Apparently gas isn’t really expensive because I don’t see people slowing down. An I’m not talking doing 40 on the interstate…. But 80+ in a 65 is a bit much, regardless of how good of drivers folks think they are and how entitled they think they are to do so.
I never measured exactly but I would guess a gallon of DEF gets me 1000 miles at 20 mpg. In NY I could easily get DEF at a pump and pump in what it took to fill it. And I would know how my gallons. So far in DELAWARE I wait until it says 'DEF less than half full" and add a full 2.5 gallon jug.None of my vehicles need DEF. The question of how far does a tank of DEF go is a good one. I have no clue.
Well what’s the alternative, flying?I hear a lot of talk about cutting back but I sure don't see it. I have one brother who just completed a round-trip drive between NW OH and Pampa TX and makes frequent trips to Detroit. The other brother makes regular drives between NE OK and NE IN. He also just drove from OK to MD and flew back. He says in a few months he and the wife will be flying back to MD and then driving back to OK. We'll see.
You are reminding me that my pellet furnace needs to be repaired over the summer, need a new full auger , driver, cup assy and driver and a sensorI was never wasteful and weirdly I never had a problem paying for cars but don't like paying for gas.
Same way with new hvac systems.
I fear the price of home heating oil right know but have a hybrid system and will use that as long as possible.
Yesterday I bought regular gas for my zt.. It cost $60 to fill it up and I thought Sunoco at $4.93 a gallon was a steal...lol
But I do conserve and have cut back a bit.
Or mail orderEfficiently consolidate running errands in the vehicle is one of the best ways.
I have filled up my Touareg 3 times in 50k miles, with 4ish gallons each time. The question of how far does a tank of DEF go is a good one. I have no clue.
Never had to start as I generally drive pretty efficiently.with gas prices soaring and no end in sight, the trickle down effect is straining budgets for many of us. myself included. have any of you started to cut back on your trips or in other ways? without getting political, what are some of the things you are doing to save?
prices here range from 4.89 to 5.39 depending on where you are in the county. ive started to consolidate my trips. im also looking at sales at the grocery store & buying store brands when i can. cutting out stuff i dont have to have. keeping netflix & canceling hulu. making changes to my auto insurance to state minimums while keeping full coverage. downgrading my satellite tv package to eliminate premium channels. small changes can add up pretty quick. if things keep getting worse ill have to eliminate some services all together, such as saying bye bye to directv.
the economists on Bloomberg & CNBC warn of a pretty rough summer (likely recession) into early 2023.
No, but my gene pool tends to live to 90+ so I don't want to be 70 and eating dogfood. You get one life period. When your old, sitting in the rocking chair on the patio looking out in the distance, are you going to say you experienced life to the fullest or are you going to have regrets?!
I will not be living with regrets regardless of the current situation.
