It's reliable and paid off. I keep it washed and it isn't an eye sore so it's just fine in my book. Whereas all my late-20s early 30s friends are trying to show off, I'm enjoying not having a car payment.
I wish I could think like you and had your mentality.
How do I get it?
Well I got that attitude, but it was not easy.
it involved getting my own house and having to work two jobs just to meet the mortgage payments (when the rate hit 17.5%)
Starting a business with nothing but a 75 Datsun PU and$10 of gas.
Living on Weaners, Bread and Beans for months on end.
Taking delight in an 'almost new' pair of runners I bought at a Thrift Store.
Plus a lot more stuff you proberbly don't want to hear about.
But now, 30 years later, Everyday is a good day
Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but it's one of those things, you have to have been there to understand.
Well im desperate to have that mindset, i really am. Im willing to do anything to be happy with my car again.

Would you not have been kicking yourself if you ended up paying $31K for an '09 Civic?
Lots of old cars end up popular with enthusiasts and hipsters. Look at old Volvos and even old Toyotas and Hondas.
And that is why I backed out that morning and got my deposit back, I was talked out of taking on 7 years of monthly payments on a car. It would have set me back for many years.
I didnt want to do it but i know i had to for the better of my future.
