TWENTY PERCENT INTEREST????

Insane. You were very smart to have listened to your online advisors.

Every older car goes over "humps" where you need to fix some serious stuff. Right now my 10-year-old Buick needs a new A/C blower motor, and it's coming up on 100K miles, so I expect there'll be $everal thing$$ later this year. (Once that's done, though, I'll coast for a while.) And it's thought of by most people as an "old guy car."

Scroo 'em. I keep mine clean, polished, clean inside too, and I'm proud to see it and to drive it every day. Sure, I'd like something else to "play" with, a Mustang or Miata or a small Benz or BMW. But insurance on 2 cars in this backward state would kill me -- and kill any fun I'd get out of it.

Be glad you have a car, man! You could be walking, cadging rides from friends or your parents, or (worst of all) riding the bus. Think how much fun that'd be.

From his previous posts, you've only seen the tip of the iceberg. No decent job (if any) and lives with his parents....yet think he wants a new car and wants to date women.
There is no helping this guy or making him grasp reality. If you don't believe me....check out all his past posts and make your own decision.

Well, at least he wants to be more "normal" (My quotes, whatever that means?) and wishes he wasn't in the situation he's in...

Maybe more time at work or in school and less on the Boards?

This is a terrible idea. I'm sure I can believe how badly you want one, but please for the love of all that is holy wait until you can afford it. Not sure how old you are but from what you've written I'm guessing you're pretty young and you've got plenty of time to satisfy urges like this later. I don't even mean a lot later -- save money and see where you are in a couple years. You do NOT want to overextend yourself on a loan, let alone on your parents credit (especially if you have to CONVINCE them that you NEED a new car) just for a car.

Getting a new car before you can afford it because you're embarrassed about a 2001 Civic IMO is trying to solve the wrong problem.

Well compared to everyone here having new 2010 and up cars, i think it is. But its not so much the year but the fact it looks so outdated.

im not young im 31. Last March I was actually this close to getting a 09 Civic for 7years of payments at 20% interest for first 9 months then drops to 10% for remainder. Would have been about 31k over the 7 years for a 17k car.

Had the deposit down and was all set to go in next day, til I got serious advice from members on honda boards to not do it and talked me out of it. I walked in the next day and got my deposit back, even though it was one of the hardest most depressing things ive ever gone through in my life. That was not the only reason why i did it, but i just couldnt think of a reason on why i need a new car and what i would tell family when they ask. I would have to lie and i just couldnt do that especially to my parents.

The only way for me to get a new car is by getting parents to apply for me. Either that or they co-sign, but if they co-sign im still certain i get high rates cause credit check would be under my name no my moms.

I just cant think of an honest reason to tell her on why i need a new car. I could say mine now is having problems and cheaper to trade in and get new car and i got a really good offer for my trade in. But I know that wouldnt be true at all.
And in a couple of years the "new one" will be having the same problems.

carnoobie the fact that you even made this thread proves you are out of touch. you shouldnt even be thinking about your car. you need to think of the burden your putting on your parents. its incredibly selfish and wrong. you need to go get a job [censored] mcdonalds is always hiring . save a few bucks and move out. there is absolutely no excuse. and i dont want to hear its hard blah blah blah. i was forced at 17 out of my house at ten pm at night my girlfriend and i camped at the river in are car for two weeks. then got an apt and made it in life. you just need to do it. if i can do it anyone can. you need to put your big boy britches on and start kicking a little. if your car starts clunking or anything dont even worry about it until you are out of your parents roof. if your 31 your parents are atleast 50 probably older. they need to save money to retire on and what have you. you leeching off of them is selfish and wrong. i am not trying to be rude but you son need to hear it. i hate seeing good people bust their humps so lazy people can sit around. please get of the web and go pound the pavement and find a job and make your way. be strong.

That's a good question.

For me, my '94 Jaguar (actually a 1993 build) is definitely an old timer.

The 2004 Jaguar, not sure, it's getting close to what I would call old.

The 2008's and 2009's, not new, but clearly not old.

I guess the decade mark is where I mark it off as "old".

No need for insults man. I know I have problems and im working on changing it. Im starting a career change right now and scheduled to see a career counsellor tommorow.

I started going to church about 4 weeks ago and have been going every Sunday.

I sold my xbox and only have my PS3 now with no games.

Ive been volunteering the past few days at a college where we make and send out lunches to less fortunate kids. I plan on doing this for rest of the week at least.

Next week im going back for 2 weeks covering for one of the girls i used to work with as shes going on vacation.

#1 is finding a job first, and trust me im looking, I have been. I dont sit around and play video games all day anymore. Not a good feeling trust me.

From what ive noticed in my mood and overall self being. When im working Im happy and more motivated in life. When im not working, i get all depressed again and lazy.

Right now, even though i dont have a whole lot going on in my life right now, its more than it was 3 weeks ago. Read my last post.

bud im sorry but the fact that your online and its daylight means your not looking very hard. go to a temp agency or career center. i think your afraid of life. you seem very shy and afraid to grab the bull by the horns and rattle his cage. you need to get up and go bust [censored] until you find a job end of story no excuses period. good luck grow up and shut up . you need to first shut up then get up and lastly grow up. you can do it.

From initially reading Carnoobie's posts, I thought he was a teenager living at home. 31 and living at home is not a good thing. I would say from reading your posts, that you are very immature for your age and need to grow up. For someone in your situation, a new or newer car is the last thing you need. You need to set some goals and make some plans on what you want to do with your life. Living at home with your parents is not going to allow you to be an adult and make it on your own. Also being 31 and living with your parents does not make you very attractive to most women and may be why you don't have a girlfriend. I hope you take some of the advice given to you here so you can chart a different course for your life.

All that being said, my daily driver is a 92 Cavalier with 171,300 miles on it that still runs and looks good. I don't give a [censored] what people think about what I drive or what I do. My last new vehicle is my 98 chevy Z71 that I still own with 121,000 miles on it and my newest vehicle is a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Dale Jr. edition with 99,000 miles on it that I bought used.

I love cars and trucks of all types and sometimes I think that I want something new, but like a lot of you, I don't want the huge car payments. Not worth it to me anymore. Of coarse, when my house is payed off in about six months, I may change my mind but for now, I'm happy with what I have.

Do you really think finding a job is THAT easy? Hate to break it to you but this is 2012, you find a job by going online cause thats where everything is posted these days. this isnt where i can just walk into random places and ask for a job. Not only that, buts much more time consuming. You can send out 100x more resumes in an hour online than by foot. Most places dont like people just walking in anymore and handing in resumes, they prefer them sent through email.

I have been to temp agencies, Im signed up with 4 currently and have found work from some of them.

All I see is excuses, you need to re-evaluate yourself. Yes its harder to find a job but its not impossible. Have you ever thought that the reason you're struggling to find a job is perhaps of your attitude and lack of ambition? If you haven't figured out 99% of online applications never get looked at. Its so important to follow up on every application you submit for somebody to even notice it. If your plan of finding a job is sitting at your computer and submitting 100's of applications a week, you'll probably be unemployed until you're 60. Instead of mass online applying, pursue each application like it's the last one available anywhere. And leave this new car non sense behind, get a job and stop leeching off your parents. And I'll leave you with a quote. "“When you want to succeed as bad you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful."

Listen to Chevyboy14.

Consider this scenario:

Alice lives in a rented condo with older furniture that is always kept as clean and neat as circumstances allow. Her wardrobe, while not the height of fashion, is sufficient for the needs of her work and personal life. She owns outright the basic tools she needs for her trade, although they are not the best available. She gets back and forth to work in a 15 year old Ford Ranger that has a few dents and scrapes on it that were all there 5 years ago when she bought it paying cash. It gets her to work and back home again 6 days every week. She has a healthy and happy seven year old son who seems to be doing just fine in school. He's gotten into some minor trouble a few times, but every time he does that it's for doing something that she's secretly proud of. She also has an eight year old German Shepherd dog who's dedicated herself to protecting that son and that condo against the French Army if need be.

Bob lives in a house that his parents gave him as a graduation present. He has seven different varieties of name brand hard liquor in his cabinet but not much fresh meat or vegetables in his fridge or freezer. He has a part time job as an assistant with his father's company that pays about 50% more than Alice's job pays her and he also gets pretty good benefits. He drives to that job five days a week (excluding holidays and vacation) in a 2010 MDX with a broken fog light, three bald tires, and the original oil still in it. He's only one month behind on payments.

Trent is standing at an intersection waiting for the light to turn as Alice and Bob both drive past. Trent thinks Bob's MDX is much nicer than Alice's Ranger.

Do you think Bob takes more pride in his MDX than Alice does in her Ranger?
