Just as the title says. In light of everything going on I am just curious about this. I do think they are a good overall company and think they make some of the best oils, however I do not like the way they are handling this so far at all and I think customer service means a lot. So what oils could I buy so that in some way I am not giving Mobil my money? Thanks!

Now now now, I think we should wait to see where the cards fall on this one.

Mobil could just be a target for a false or slanted marketing ploy.

As for Oils that do not use XOM, I think Royal Purple is not mobil base oil, but I really am not to sure.

I agree and thats why I said I do think they make good products however I do not like the way they are treating their customers or potential customers. I was thinking about going with several of their oils until I have seen their email responses. It really does not have anything to do with whether or not they meet a certain spec as im sure they are still a better all around oil than most.

It doesn't matter to me who buy base oils from whom, I only buy oil when it is on sale (or clearance) for dirt cheap such as $0.99/qt for syn and/or $0.49/qt for dino.

My last oil purchase was M1 0W20 and 0W40 at WM for $2/qt on clearance shelf and Synpower 5W20 at Kragen for $0.99/qt after rebates. These prices were too good to not stock up.

I can't see Chevron, Havoline, Shell, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Kendall, or Motorcraft having much ExxonMobil base oil in them.

Thanks guys so it sounds like BP and Sopus does not use their base oils! Thats great. I was not sure so thank you all.

Thanks Johnny, just another reason for me to use PP. Or just stick with PYB.

What is so special and why would you think a certain brand of oil is better simply because they produce their own base stock?

If Valvoline buys theirs from Chevron or XOM, then why wouldn't Valvoline's motor oil be just as good as any other.

It just seems sort of funny to say you will use X brand vs Y brand because they make their own base stock. you think?

strombony, I think what the OP is saying is that he realises ExMo products are good, but just chooses for his own reasons not to support them.

I happen to agree with him. I think Mobil 1 is an excellent oil, but for political reasons I choose not to give ExMo any more of my money. I won't buy their gas, either. There are plenty of equally good choices out there, so I vote with my wallet.

I tend to have more faith in companies that produce their own base stocks, they have complete control over the manufacturing process and know everything about them. Who knows what a company (like Ashland) that buys their base oils on the open market is getting and how consistent their final products are?

Ashland, like every motor oil maker, takes a sample of every load of baseoil. If the base oil does not meet there strict standards, they send it right back.

The base oil recieved by Ashland, from XOM is high quality and consistant. Nothing to fret about.

Conoco-Phillips (at least the Kendall brand) uses base oils from S-Oil in Korea. Korea has three refinerys which are apparently responsible for about 45% of the world's supply.

The Group III they use comes from S-Oil, they make their own Group II here.
