Oil for (modified) supercharged 3800 ?

@Snwwhtssei See below on why Porsche A40 is important enough spec that so many people brought it up already. An oil has to be REALLY stout to get that certification.

Here is Porsche A40 testing procedure:
This test will last 203 hours. The engine, and the oil, will go through:
- 4 times the simulation of 35 hours of summer driving,
- 4 times the simulation of 13.5 hours of winter driving,
- 40 cold starts,
- 5 times the simulation of 1-hour sessions on the “Nürburgring” racetrack, A full lap of the Nordschleife, bypassing the modern GP track, is 20.832 km (12.944 mi) long. A stock Chevrolet Corvette C5 has a lap record at Nurburgring @8:40, stock Honda S2000 has a record@8:39, and stock Honda NSX is @8:38. Considering these numbers, this Porsche A40 simulation is equal to 80-90 miles of flatout track use. Or 100-120 miles if you drive Porsche 911 GT2 R with its lap record @6:38.
- 3.5 hours of “running-in” program
Measurements on the engine and on the oil will be done at regular intervals, and the following parameter
will be taken into account to grant the approval or not:
- torque curve (internal friction),
- oxidation of the oil,
- Piston cleanliness and ring sticking,
- Valve train wear protection. Cam & tappet wear must be less than 10 μm.
- Engine cleanliness and sludge: after 203 hours, no deposits must be visible.
- Bearing wear protection: visual rating according to Porsche in-house method.
One more thing for comparison. Just a rough idea of how the numbers stack up. Take everything with a grain of salt.
Most daily driven cars have an average speed (over the course of an OCI) of about ~35mph. That would make the 203hr test an equivalent to 7,105 miles of driving.

Assuming the average speeds are higher, let's say 50mph, and the 203hrs are now equivalent to 10,150 miles of driving.

Some years ago one of the oil companies offered free oil with free UOA, I ran the oil in this this engine that was also modified and had wear problems. This was one OCI on 5w30, luckily it didn't lose the bearings, after talking to someone at their sport division and told them what the engine had for parts in it the guy said you cannot run xw30 in that engine and to run 0w40 or 5w40.
On Mobil 1 0w40 the numbers dropped like a stone.

I see that yours on the diagram is a modified grand prix with what I would assume is an L67 like mine,
So mine is a little different that what you posted, mine is an L67 with a Gen v blower ported lim with a N* Throttle body,90# spring 1.95 rockers and an EGR delete as well.
Do you run the mobile 1 0w-40 in your car (or did you)
And the Porsche A40 everyone is mentioning is that in the mobil 1 oil?
I live in the South where temperatures regularly hit high 90s would the 0w be good for me? I Daily Drive my car.

0w40 boutique oil from Amsoil, Redline or HPL

I would be getting that transmission fluid changed to a better quality fluid, and change it religiously.
What would you recommend, I currently have the stock transmission fluid in it, (meaning the stock recommended lol) I do change it pretty often and I have the transgo shift kit installed.

Hello all!
So I am a new member and I signed up because I'm looking for a good recommendation to replace my former oil. So in my twenty years of car maintenance i have Always used Havoline oil products, now it seems its becoming very difficult to find my oil of choice and I guess I have to switch. I have a modified supercharged 3800 engine. in searching for a new oil I keep that in mind.

Also i have heard that with all things one company makes many oils and they just change the label as it goes down the line, I'm curious which companies do make mulitple variants of oil like i know Havoline is actually made by Chevron and they also make Delo and Techron oil.

Definitely give Triax Lubricants a try 😉😉

Yes the 0W-40 has A40 approval but so do others at Walmart. Just read the back of the container.

And the winter rating is irrelevant at 90F.
