PUP 0w-20 will serve you well, after a bit of break in period the Pennzoil Ultra Platium 5w30 would work fine also in summer months.
 
245f oil going up a mountain with a trailer.. and it didnt get low oil pressure until 600rpm idle afterwards.
of course a thicker oil would fix that..
however if you arent beating it up a mountain with a heavy trailer the thicker oil is IMO optional (and I'd run it)
but it is nice to break 20mpg in a full size truck too.. and as long as the oil temps are under 230f 0w20 not likely an issue.
although I'm not familiar with how much these dilute or shear the oil.

I would want at least a regular 30wt (non euro)

at 250f your 40wt is now as thick as a 20wt at 212.
I'd run 0W40 in it, especially with the low idle oil pressure after working the engine hard. As you said thicker oil would fix that, so why not use it all the time? IIRC I noticed my 3.6L Pentastar engine has higher oil pressure just about all of the time from what I saw in that video, even for the brief time I ran the 5W20 factory fill. I'm wondering if at some point they're going to make some improvements to the oiling system and engine design. Who knows they might revisit the oil specs like Ford did some years back with some of their engines bumping up a grade. I think a lot of people tend to push turbo engines a bit harder, I see zero downside in using a thicker oil in them.

I stand corrected. The pour point may have changed. Although there is some speculation of a misprint, as some testing for a 5 viscosity oil is done at -31ºF

Such a high pour point likely means it's an AN based oil, prob not Group III. Which is even better. The SAE J300 standard for 5W oils requires a specific (MRV) viscosity at -35°C (-31°F), so a pour point of -33°F is unlikely.

Anyway, I have some and can cool it to -20ºF. Should be interesting. My bet is it will remain very fluid.
 
My brother replaced his 2016 5.7L with 240k plus mile truck with a 2025 SST 3.0L Laramie around three months ago. I’d go 5w30 full synthetic or Mobil 1 ESP 0w30, we’ll see when he calls for an oil change😉.
 


I think this was the video you may have been referencing, not sure though. They had a low oil pressure warning at the end.

I watched that along with a few others. IMO the oil pressure should never get that low. I've read about people getting pressures a little higher w/o towing in hot climates running up hills and working the engine a bit.

That was a calibration/software issue that has already been fixed by FCA after TFL reported this incident. I wish TFL would update their videos saying this. Newer trucks repeating this test won't/shouldn't get this low oil pressure issue.

Good to know, thanks for sharing. I'd still run 0W40 in the standard and high output engines for an added margin of protection.
 
I chose this thread to add a few factoids to the subject of the Hurricane engine. It’s currently the engine of choice for the Dodge Charger. You can get the SO or the HO. The HO makes 550 HP and incorporates Plasma Transfer Wire Arc ( PTWA) surface on the cylinder bores. It has two Garret turbochargers, one for each 3 cylinders. It has dual overhead camshafts and direct injection. It has a continuously variable displacement oil pump. The SO has 22 psi of peak boost and the HO has 26 psi of peak boost. It certainly is not your grandpa’s slant 6. Unfortunately it is not a Hemi. Last I checked the engines were manufactured in Saltillo , Mexico.
Feel free to update that. The Charger is still assembled in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

By the way, Charger sales are not good. Some blame it on the absence of the Hemi, but the youngest baby boomers are now 60 years old. What does a Hemi rumble sound like through hearing aids?

The last Hemi Chargers and Hemi Challengers will be collector items for sure.
