I can't remember the last time I even went inside one of these stores, or autozone either. I get parts off of RA and amazon drops oil on my doorstep for way less than they sell it for. The local PepBoys only does repairs now, they closed the retail part of the store completely. I can't see AAP or AZ staying open long term by selling Christmas tree air fresheners and p-nut M&Ms.

The few times shopped Amazon for oil it was extremely overpriced. Is there a code to use or something¿

Even smaller chains of shops can afford to have basic oils bottled with their name.
Levine's in New England is the one nearest me.

It's good to hear...but no big deal, no?

Depends on the oil. Some of the common stuff goes unavailable from amazon and all you see is 3rd party resellers. Usually the stuff they sell in 5qt containers is competitive with walmart, and they usually sell the cheaper varieties of motul at a competitive price.

Generally if it's a 1qt container yes, it's a little higher.

The only thing the customer wants is affordable product that's already on the shelf. You don't need to come out with another line of product, just lower the price on the stuff you already sell. Advance is at the top with regard to pricing and I seriously doubt they surveyed any customers and were told to offer a new line of oil.

Same. Unless something I want is on clearance, or we have an emergency part needed, just too expensive. I wonder if the P-Nut M&M's come in standard and metric?

It is the same price for me as it is on the local Walmart shelf, to the penny. We have prime already so that part is sunk cost.
Exactly. I buy oil either at Walmart or Amazon. Both ship to my door free (I usually by 2 jugs at a pop to get free shipping with Walmart, or, add other things my wife needs to get it over the top.) I do grab Kirkland at Costco when it is on sale. It may be location dependent though. I imagine everything in California is through the roof.

From a brand recognition standpoint this is three steps backwards

If its still a AOC product why not just go with the Amalie Elixir branding

Just read an article about this. This time last year I was still working at Advance, but I don’t get the inside scoop anymore. I’m mainly wondering if this means the current “store brand” Fram oil is going away, and is this a result of the current First Brands situation? And if so, what does that mean for the AAP-specific FRAM filters?

I worked for Advance Auto for a little over a year, and retail really isn’t their main business. They make far more in commercial sales than retail. Shops usually get a hefty commercial discount and they depend on 30 minute deliveries to keep their businesses running. For retail customers, it is a total ripoff and I was terrible salesman in that regard. I’d regularly encourage customers to go buy batteries at Walmart or to order on Rockauto if they could wait for shipping.

Advance is not doing too well as a business but it’s got a lot more to do with corporate mismanagement and wasted resources than their crummy retail business.

Wuff. Good luck selling this with a name like that. Fram oil has always performed admirably any time I used it, which I’m assuming was Amalie? Future post read: “scored 61 clearance jugs of argos @ AAP”!

I’m guessing this stuff is seeing some delays because it was supposed to be on shelves by mid February and at least where I am, there isn’t any.
