Are these new….or just renamed? Valvoline Advanced and Valvoline Extended Protection Gear Oils. I saw the new flex fill packaging at my local Walmart tonight. The Extended Protection also is available at auto part stores online.

Looks like Amazon has the full syn flex fill bags on sale as does Napa - and gallon jug for $32.99.

Tempting - but I just did the diffs.

I used to use Valvoline gear lubes but probably will not based on this thread. Not saying its bad, just seems better is available.

I wonder if the extended protection version is made to compete better with amsoil, motul etc.

I am using less expensive fluids lately in the GX 460 - including:

*Supertech advanced 5w30 20k oil ($20/5qt - need 8qts), 4 to 7k changes.

*Valvoline full syn 75w90 gl5 full syn gear oil ($44 to 54 per 4 qt flex bags, need 5qts), 40k changes.

*Toyota’s reasonably priced SLLC coolant ($21/gallon), atf ws and atf ps fluid etc. 60k changes.

*Redline mt lv 70/75w @$20 x 2 qts for tc (instead of toyota oem 75w at $60 to 80 per qt). 60k change.

I think they will do fine for my mostly on-road (no towing) driving. But, if I see a good sale on motul, driven (dt40) or amsoil sv gear I would probably get it.

I tend to change fluids more frequently and would rather have fresh fluids than buy more expensive lubes and run longer. And do a uoa/voa or buy new tools from time to time for fun with the savings from the diy. My little attempt to fight inflation and it gets me under the vehicle more often to check for issues.

Still have to buy a bit more expensive fluids on the 911. But, not driving it as much so less frequent changes. Mobil 5w50 or DT40, Ate 200 dot 4, Mobilube Ptx transaxle 75w90 for mt, Porsche coolant, Pentosin chf 11s etc.

Still cheaper than the Lexus and Porsche dealer service dept in any case.

I've been running royal purple in the diffs on my ram since 10k....now 112,000 miles ......changed every 25k ....a little nervous changing at this point unless verified to be better
