Aluminum flecks in oil filter

TiGeo....let us know the diagnosis. I have recommended the sportswagen as a vehicle to my older sister. She is currently shopping for and driving them right now.....as we speak. Anything happens in the future it will no doubt be my fault.

Unlike many posting in this thread, I have a vested interest in this issue. She is mean.
The GSW is a fantastic car and I'd recommend it or the Alltrack to anyone. The only common issue is the water pump/thermostat housing and the pano sunroof leaking.

Sisters are really really mean, I have one.

I put 504 to the wheel with my MK7 so you could say I had a few mods as well. HPFP if upgraded can cause cam wear, that is possible. I am not buying into E being a killer provided oil is changed more frequently.
No doubt a very nice ride you have there. Content, quality of E can have different effects. Driving styles can also affect different parts failures as I have alluded to in my other post. A few jaunts to the 1/4 vs our friend Ti running up and down the dragon affect parts in different ways.

As Mr Ti noted. Spun bearing, he'd know it by now. Piston issues, he'd know it by now. Timing issues with the timing being dead on, he'd know it by now. I pitched another angle based on the info we were given. We are not dealing with a 18 year old here, Mr Ti is certainly no dummy in describing his issue. He has access to tools and checked the obvious, timing.

That led me to the very next culprit. HPFP.

Look at his YouTube channel. It's very informative. Look at the paces he puts that thing through and his mods, coupled with his driving style.....that fuel system as well as the car, live a pretty rough life.

IMHO, Mr Ti should become a parts tester for companies. I am sure he'd find the failure.

It is a great ride. I've driven a few. 2 of my friends have them. Both around 50k miles and no issues.

She is looking at a few with under 20k miles. I figure by the time any issues arrive. I'll be moved to TN and be closer to her to address those issues.

Anything is better than that 16 Tucson I SPECIFICALLY told her not to get.

Now it's my fault cause I was not CONVINCING enough telling her not to buy it.

You know I was torn between putting it here in oil filters or one of the main pages....

Also thrust bearing....but again, suprised that woudn't be more catastrophic? Manuals suffer from "crank walk" due to this.

All 2.0 TDI and the 2015 Passat TDI I had had high aluminum showing in uoa and the source was believed to be the oil coolers. Idk what type oil cooler your car has but it has been flagged in some VW tdi in the past but may not relate to a gasser at all.

I'd think that has nothing to do with this/completely different engine. Interesting none the less but we are talking about glitter in the filter.

Update. Just went to the county recycling facility to drain my oil container from this change. I grabbed a strainer at Walmart and passed the oil through it - nothing material that I could see besides a few gritty pieces of sand that likely came from under the car when I changed it (my stickier tires kick up a ton of pebbles onto the belly pan). Also seeing about BS expedited this UOA!

I still have cash on hpfp roller/body.
E eats aluminum like nobody's business. It's also has less lubrication than gasoline. I'm just burious of where the flakes came from and playing car doctor over phone.
The mechanical interface of the HPFP with the actuation cam lobe doesn't care what fuel is being ran, only what oil is between the moving parts.

What if the chain could momentarily be loose enough to touch the outer case?
Only place I could see that happening is the red circled places. Pull the valve cover and take a look.

That's because the oil filter did it's job.
