I'm just reading the new ACEA 2004 spec when I came across this test method ASTM D6278. Can anyone explain - 100'c viscosity after 30 cycles
What does the 30 cycles mean? Is it like equivalent to certain number of mile test? Thanks

I do not know for a fact.
Usually when engineers write something like that they mean the following:
"Start her up. Warm her up with low speed on the dyno, then move to a load level simulating highway driving. Operate for a total of XX minutes, then shut her down."
That constitutes one cycle.
The question is... what horsepower will the testbed engine be making during the simulated driving? 50 HP? 100 HP? Will it be running flat out?
How long is "one cycle"? Could be 10 minutes... could be 2 hours. Could be 8 hours.
If I wanted to know more I'd try Googling "ASTM D6278" in quotes and see what turned up.
