Ok I’m about to do the yearly oil change on my Buick. It has a 455 with a mild hydraulic flat tappet cam. I know from previous posts and reading threads that it should be fine with running just the M1 Euro 0w40. My question is, can I mix some maybe M1 Delvac1 5w40 or V-Twin 20w50 to give it a little zinc boost? Would make me feel better knowing it would be

above the normal 1k zinc number. What do y’all think of this Walmart concoction?

I own old cars as well and have a concern for ZDDP for them but I would not mix the oils. Your better option, in my opinion, is to run the synthetic version of Valvoline VR1 or similar classic/race oil. You can run the 10w/30 or the 20w/50 and be safe and secure. With this you will know without a doubt you have enough zddp and at the correct ratio.

100% what he said. I second the VR1.

Mild cam and mild valve springs to match? I'm guessing this is a hobby car that won't see 5000 miles put on the oil. The 0W-40 will do well on its own.

This is what I put in it last time. I’m not exactly sure if it was synthetic. Also, I’m never buying that Purolator again. Was a lot smaller than the Wix that was on it.

I put maybe 500 miles on it last year 😂 I hardly drive these cars and I have two of them garaged away at my sister’s house… Here’s a copy & paste of the TA Performance cam specs.

What about M1 15w-50? Has a lot of ZDDP in it?

Personally I run Amsoil Z-Rod 10w-30 in my 1959 Ford, then use M1 15w-50 as makeup oil. I have an open draught tube and loose some out of that.

I use M1 Euro 0w-40 in all of my "modern" engines. The 12qt boxes are quite convenient and price competitive.

With all those cubes, that's probably a nice street cam. How's the vacuum?

This is the 2nd oil change. First was run for 500 miles after I put bearings and installed new exhaust valves and hardened seats, as well as some machine work on a Cloyes double roller timing chain (which wasn't made for this engine).

This oil change was after 2 years and approx 3,000 miles.

whats the spring peessures?

Pics of the beast?
Were it me, I’d run the Delvac 1 straight up. You don’t ‘need’ the 0W abilities of the M1, and I’d want something a bit thicker that won’t shear as much in a big engine like that.
Curious why you think that big motor that runs at lower rpms would shear oil. My motorcycle runs 14000 rpms and oil becomes water very quickly. I always thought lower rpms sheared it less but would like to know.

Well I guess the six quarts of VR1 10w30 I dumped in it last were conventional. Funny I thought I had synthetic in it this whole time 🤯 Definitely going synthetic on it now!
Does anyone know how much Zinc is in the Delvac1 5w40? I couldn’t find it on M1’s website. Here are the other’s Zinc numbers. I’m thinking 0w40 and one or two quarts of the V-Twin 20w50 🤔 Good Walmart concoction??

M1 ESP x3 0w40 = 990
M1 Supercar 0w40 = 990
M1 Euro 0w40 = 1000
M1 Supercar 5w50 = 1200
M1 TDT 5w40 = 1300
M1 15w50 = 1320
M1 V-Twin = 1770

I believe their 15-50 has lost some zinc with the new SN/SP specs.
