So what do you think is going to happen the HD when all of the old pirates that ride them die off? Honda will still be around long after the company that relies on archaic designs is long gone...
Typical argumentative deflection of the point at hand. You can’t defend the Honda Rune in any way so you change your argument. The whole point of my post was in response to this thread about high priced impractical motorcycles. And the Honda Rune is definitely exactly that. Imagine the sap who bought one of those and now has to replace something that doesn’t work or is damaged?
One bike doesn't define them all ... so that seems to also be an argument deflection.
There still will be HD consumers. I still see more blackbeards on them than greybeards. At least on the weekends.
25 yrs ago you had to get on a waiting list to get a new one, that didn't kill them then. Now it's walk in and ride out.
Reverse is standard on the TriGlide. I’m sure it could be an option on the big twins but HD probably thinks if you need reverse on a motorcycle…..you might as well just drive the Buick!
I didn't change the argument at all. The HD you posted is $60K. The Rune sold new for $25K, and is 10 times the bike of any Harley. Are both impractical? Sure, but I'd take $25K of impractical over $60K of impractical...

I’m that 71 year old guy! I’ve owned a Gold Wing, 2 Electra Glide Ultras, a CVO Streetglide, and a FXDC and many more brands of motorcycles. If I get to where I can’t duck walk a motorcycle….as I said….I’ll take the Buick!
That's usually when guys get a trike...wasn't the reverse on your Wing nice? You can literally park it anywhere and not have to worry about getting out....
I’m think the center stand is a much more useful feature then the reverse IMO.
My wife rides a Spyder. Thats what I will transition to when the HD gets too heavy. No tippy HD trikes for me. That Spyder will rail around corners and fully test your ability to hang on and is pretty darn fast. Not to mention pretty good burn outs also. (don't tell her)

I didn’t compare the Rune to them all so I have no idea what your point is. The RUNE, in the context of THIS THREAD, is and was a high priced impractical motorcycle
First of all I did not post anything about a 60k HD. That was the OP. Second, you’re going to tell me that the Rune, which Honda spent 225 MILLION dollars designing in 2003, and LOST over $100,000 per bike in 2003, would still be sold for 25k, 20 years later?
Oh yes you’ve changed the argument. By any standards it was an overpriced unpractical bike. It would be even worse if they tried that today. You do know what inflation is, don’t you?
You also tried to change the argument to which bike better or has better fit and finish. That’s in the eye of the beholder. Hey if you bought this bike new 20 years I hope you aren’t riding it because it’s going to cost you a fortune if anything breaks or you dump it. How practical is that? And that’s just a fact.
One final note. This thread is about high priced impractical motorcycles. Many manufacturers are guilty of this. The childish comments about pirate outfits and such are out of place. Grow up and pick your fights in person instead of hiding behind the internet
Harleys have always been pretty high priced for what you get compared to similar bikes, especially in the technology department. They have gotten a lot more technically advanced over the years because they had to in order to remain in business. Lots of people buy them for the perceived image and not necessarily for the technology, performance or comfort.
I disagree. I’ve test ridden Gold Wings and my HD is way more comfortable for me. When my knees are jammed up against a fairing, that’s not comfortable. Not to mention the heat flowing off those radiators during a hot summer day. It’s no wonder I see more Gold Wings in spring and fall on the road than the middle of the summer.
Performance wise I don’t see any Gold Wings in police motorcycle competitions. That is certainly a level of performance. In fact I’ve never seen a Gold Wing used for police duty.
As for technology, I can’t see buying a touring bike that I’m going to put a ton of miles on only to have to inspect the valve adjustments every 32k. I mean, what century is this? My grandfather used to have to adjust the valves on his Ford Flathead. And it didn’t take 2 hours to remove all the plastic bodywork just to get at the motor
So as you can see, everyone can have different views on what comfort, performance, and technology means to them.
To deem your views are the truth and the standard we should all go by would be disingenuous at the very least
As for your other comment about HD getting more technically advanced over the years because they had to…..well duh, which motorcycle company makes bike now like they did in 1980? Is a new Gold Wing identical to the first year 1974 model? Why did they change it? Maybe because they had to? Your bias is so obvious it’s hilarious.

I'm not as "biased" as you think, but because of your obvious Harley biased, you think anyone who says anything negative about them must be anti-Harly biased, lol. I've ridden a friends Harley, and didn't like it at all - heavy, under powered, low performance handling, vibrated way too much for me ... that's just reality from my perspective. Maybe not all models are like that. Not my cup 'o tea as they say. Those who like 'em ... good for them, but I'd never buy one for what you get.
