51r battery inconsistency.

My wife's CRV takes a 51r. I have the EverStart Maxx bookmarked. I also have what is called a EverStart Platinum (Boxed) bookmarked which is also a 51r but it says it doesn't fit the vehicle.

Looking at pics, the terminals are on the opposite side. I would think that a 51r is the same for all but this has me thrown for a loop.

Thoughts on this? Am I missing something? Probably am; I'm getting old! Maybe I've had too much to drink ma. On the other hand, maybe I haven't had enough!

BTW, this AGM looks identical to the Duralast Platinum Group Size 51R AGM but with the terminals on the correct side on the Duralast.
 
Walmart's pictures certainly contradict either other, but their sales lit, or any other marketing photos should not be taken as gospel.

There's an excellent chance that the battery on the rack will come from a different maker, depending on regional supply chain, and differ much more greatly than with respect to the terminal polarity orientation pictured.

The only physical difference between a 51 and 51R is the reverse terminal polarity.
 
A CR-V should take a 51R. I think group 51 and 51R batteries are my nemesis. My MG takes a group 51, but every application guide lists a 51R, which always leads to much discussion with the counter droids when I need a new one and I have to explain that I'd rather not short out the terminals with the battery bracket. Then there was my 2008 CR-V where the Autozone droid sold me the correct 51R, but grabbed a 51 off the rack by mistake, which I didn't notice until I tried to swap it in the parking lot. Let's just say he didn't grasp that it was a simple mistake that was easily corrected.
 
My 13' CRV takes a 51R. The terminals are reversed. On a standard 51, the terminals are normal, but Honda has to be different. Not to mention, they mounted it too close to the radiator, so it gets tons of extra heat. A known battery killer.One of the 2 rad fans just blows hot air right onto it.... And it''s not even insulated. And they mounted it where you can't get you're hand to the back of the headlamp to change the bulb. Really just shoe horned everything in there. Idiots.....
 
I always take a pic with my phone these days of battery in the vehicle that shows battery terminal orientation when hunting for a battery. There is a lot of misinformation on the battery terminal orientation these days.
 
Wheel366, you did not state the year of the CR-V this thread is about.

If it has the 2.4 L na gasoline, a 24F probably would drop right in. If you want to upgrade and do it neatly, the battery tray and battery cover from a 2013 Odyssey fit nice into that battery location. And any Honda dealer can get them for you, and they are not expensive. The original tie down J bolts and top hold down bracket fit the 24F very well.

I had to bend one piece of metal down, its part of what the battery tray sits in. A visegrip plyers works well to do that.

I think most people just cheap out and totally remove the plastic battery bottom tray, and don't buy the Odyssey tray and battery cover. That could expose the metal below the battery to additional battery acid, and the battery to more heat.

Walmart usually charges les for the 24F MAXX, than they charge for the 51R MAXX. And the 24F has more reserve, and more CCA.

My local Walmart usually has the 24F MAXX for $ 139.00, and the 51R MAXX for $ 159.00

I don't know if a 24F will fit in a 1.5T. But being smaller, the 1.5T probably is not as demanding of current from the battery on startup in cold weather, compared to the 2.4

A group 35 would be a significant upgrade and it also should drop right in.

The 24F is larger than a 35, and has more reserve and CCA.

The Platinum has a lower CCA which may bump it below the minimum spec for the CRV?
Or maybe they know how bad Honda's battery management is and don't want to be warrantying AGMs for them.

WalMart messed up the picture of the 51R EverStart Platinum AGM on their website. A recent purchaser submitted a review that explains the situation (see below).

I'll stick with the 51R EverStart Maxx. It will fit in the plastic tray, and no need for bigger neg cable. Gotta change headlamps this fall, their all hazed over ( Oh joy..grill / bumper / a million broken clips ). When I take out the battery, I'll wrap it in some leftover 3" header fiberglass wrap to insulate it, at least on the radiator side and corner. That'll cut back on rad heat transfer to battery. Gimme the old glass headlights any day ! 4 philips screws and you were done ! Never hazed, nothing. Just burnt out, buy a new one for $ 7 bucks, and pop it in. 10 minute job. Then they screwed those up by sticking halogens in them and they never sealed good. Always had condensation in them..Idiots...
 
Tried everything to bring back those headlamps. They came back nice, but didn't last before the haze started again. Even put Cerakote over them, then that peeled off after a while. Why can't they just design a headlamp that doesn't turn all brown and yellow ?!?!?!
