Walmart EverStart batteries longevity?

I got 4 yrs out of the value start group 65 batteries in a 00 psd with a half bad starter. They were still starting the truck but got replaced with the same and a new starter. The engine almost flies out of the engine bay now. My max flooded batteries just hit 3 yrs in an 09 Altima and 18 rogue and are still testing at 85%. After a 6 month old oem left me stranded last week at Detroit airport, I did invest in Noco jump boxes.

Happened to see my go-to battery at Walmart yesterday. You can still get a 36R with caps which I’d recommend to those who don’t mind doing battery maintenance. I remove the caps at the end of the summer and top up the battery to the correct level. With the three year free replacement, I don’t care where it’s from.

What’s the $20 tag on there for? Is it a rebate or coupon?

I just had an Everstart maxx start losing its health right after the warranty ran out. Of course this was in our rogue that gets chronically short tripped. Meanwhile the exact same battery, purchased and personally installed the same day is testing at 87% healthy in a Nissan that makes 130 mile trips daily. Nissans smart charging systems are horrible unless the vehicle sees some mileage.

I just replaced a 6 year old Everstart Maxx in a 2008 Malibu that primarily gets short tripped, that's really good considering that during the warm months when you run the AC the car runs the blower off the battery for several minutes to dry out the evap after you shut the car off.

Really? I've never heard of a car doing that.

FWIW, last month I had to replace the EverStart Maxx in my truck. Lasted 8 years (almost to the day!).

I consider that to be good performance, but I decided to try an EverStart Value this time to see how well it works.

The price of the Value compelled me to at least give it a shot.

I firmly believe the Walmart 3-year ones can be pushed to 5 years or so. This by adding an anti-shock/vibe mat below them and also periodic trickle charge and use of de-sulfation additive (e.g. Charge-It brand) even to the supposedly "sealed maintenance free" ones.
I have used a hair dryer to remove the top adhesive label and open the caps below for addition of DI water and/or de-sulfation additive.

So you're convinced it helps? In your other thread you were asking if it was helpful.

Why the specific brand?

I added 1/8 inch silicon rubber mat under 2 of mine. I believe it has helped, but my study isn't that scientific.

I haven't tried the de-sulfation additive. When / how frequently do you add?

My Everstart Max is 6 years old and I’ve kept it replenished with water with its two removal caps. It sits in the cold down to 0 F frequently. It can stay at 12.2 V when above freezing. I often see Everstart Max batteries that are made in Mexico. Mine was made in the USA.

I also have a 6 year old Everstart Deep Cycle for my outboard that can hold 12.7 volts. It gets topped up with water once a year.
Thanks for that post. Did you use regular tap water or distilled water when adding it to the battery?

Bill7, the Everstart Value 24F (1 yr. warranty) is physically the same as the mid-level Everstart Plus battery (2 yr. warranty). Both have 600 CCA and weigh the same. The top-of-the-line Everstart Maxx (3 yr. warranty) has 750 CCA and is heavier. The Maxx is identical to the Duracell and Deka labeled East Penn batteries.
Consumer reports rates both the Everstart Maxx, and Everstart Plus 24f as 5 out of 5 (their top score) for longevity.
If the Everstart Value is basically the same battery as the Everstart Plus, then the Everstart Value would rate 5 out of 5 for longevity too.

I'm thinking the Everstart Value is the best choice for only $69.xx.

doesn't Walmart source different manufacturers for their car batteries???...I would think it would be hard to gauge longevity of their batteries because of this...the Walmart batteries (specifically Everstart Maxx) here around ChicagoLand have been Clarios but others in different locations have reported other makers...also different between levels of their batteries

I thought that the Everstart batteries were always sourced from Everready (hence the name Everstart)

This is correct and an issue. East Penn is supplier for the east coast. Clarios supplies the west coast WalMarts and their supply chain runs deep, with factories in China, Mexico, Korea, USA and Germany. I have seen Clarios supplied batteries from Walmart, AC Delco, Costco and Interstate with all of those countries of origin listed.

I wonder if we may see fewer from Mexico and China now? Or if they just raise prices.

the one's I have bought in the ChicagoLand area have either been marked JCI (Johnson Controls Inc) or for the last bunch of years, Clarios...as mentioned above, the East Coast tends to be East Penn marked...YMMV

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday.
The Costco Interstate in my pickup had not been holding a charge well.
So since we had a 55 degree day yesterday, I broke out my never used, no-name battery tester from Amazon that I purchased as the result of a tip from here.
After an extended period on the charger, I tested the three year old battery (almost to the day) and it tested "Poor."
So I went to Costco. Seems that they decided that group 58 (and 59) batteries should be excluded from their rack. They generously offered to order me one. He "Thought" he could get it shipped in in two weeks.
I declined and decided to head to Rural King, because I knew that they stocked them.
As I was driving there, I thought that I may as well go into WM, because I actually had to physically drive past it anyway.
So I went in. They had several of their "Plus" batteries, and one was actually stickered reasonably (1/25), and was actually a couple of dollars less than RK. So I went ahead and purchased it.
I thought at the time that the battery looked strange. Nothing really could be determined from the serial # in regards to manufacturer. It did claim to be a Mexican product.
When I got home and the the warranty receipt, it showed the EP code on it. It used to be that to get an EP battery in my area, one had to go to Canton to get it, as that was as far east as the WM EP batteries were distributed.
However, on the other hand, the RK battery offered was clearly from the vent design a Clarios. Anymore, who knows?
