Walmart EverStart batteries longevity?

I need to buy a battery soon for a 2006 Honda Odyssey (size 24F).
I did some research on other threads on BITOG which discussed that car batteries are lasting less and less time due to the poor quality recycled lead being used in them due to lead availability.

I noticed Walmart has a store brand (Everstart) battery in different price points.
$60: Everstart Value: https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStar...ize-24F-12-Volt-585-CCA/47308797?athbdg=L1102
$120: Everstart Maxx: https://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStar...-Battery-Group-Size-24F/28275657?athbdg=L1102

The reviews on Walmart's website are mixed, some say they last 6+ years, others say they only lasted a week.
Trying to figure out if the bad reviews were from people who might have had a parasitic drain and blamed it on the battery.

How many years would be a reasonable expectation for a Walmart brand Everstart battery to last?

Has anyone came across an outstanding car battery brand that had exceeded their expectations for the # of years it lasted,
or even point me in the direction of the best brand to buy based on reputation?

I'm looking for a car battery that would last 5+ years without needing to use the warranty.

Thanks,
Bill
Think it depends on who made the battery, climate, using a battery charger during time of non-use, listening to the radio with the engine off, etc. a lot of vehicles today have alternators that are more focused on getting the best fuel economy vs full charging of the battery. Short tripping. I’ve had better luck with East Penn made batteries, but any company can change their product line.

I went to Walmart yesterday and saw that the Everstart Value, Plus and Maxx batteries in that store had been switched to a new type. Previously, they had removable caps and had a plastic strap for lifting. The new ones are completely sealed and have two swing up plastic handles and also have a magic eye hydrometer on the top. I'm guessing they are now provided Exide?

I did the heft test on the three different types and and it did seem like the Value and Plus batteries where about the same weight whereas the Maxx battery was a bit heavier.
Completely sealed or just a flat top with no distinguishable caps?

After 5 years of reliable performance with the EverStart MAXX, it's finally failing the battery test (12.55V and 567CCA instead of rated 800CCA). Battery was manufactured by Johnson Control, but everything at my local Walmart (Portland, OR) is now manufactured in S.Korea by DN Automotive.

Know nothing about that company, have to decide if I want to try another EverLast MAXX ($129 with 3 year warranty) or purchase a Duracell Ultra Gold flooded ($177 also with 3 year warranty) manufactured by East Penn. The Walmart battery is almost $50 cheaper, and there are more Walmarts (if I need to replace) than the Battery Plus Store which sells the Duracell. Makes most sense to go with the WM EverStart MAXX again.

EverStart also has a Platinum AGM with 4 year warranty which would cost me $169, also made my that mystery S Korean company. Decisions decisions...
I have the platinum AGM in my truck. I have noticed it doesn't get fully charged unless I am doing really long trips. Not the batteries fault, my truck obviously was not designed for an AGM. Luckily I do longer trips fairly often, and if I don't I just put a trickle charger on it - however I wouldn't do it again, and I put Everstart Max flooded lead acid in my other 2 cars when they needed it.

The March 2019 standard Everstart($50 back then when I bought it) in my MG is still going strong.

The battery in the car now replaced an otherwise identical one that had a 2008 date sticker on it(before I owned the car).

Admittedly this is a battery that lives a pretty easy life. Even if the car isn't driven for months, there's quite literally nothing pulling from it with the engine off. I usually throw a trickle charger on it when I know it's going to not be driven for a while. I'll sometimes drive when it's cold out, but much below freezing gets awfully uncomfortable in the car and it doesn't see salt on the road. I also don't generally drive it in really hot weather. Even if I do drive it when it's hot out, though, the battery sits behind the passenger seat, so pretty much gets ambient temperatures and no engine heat.

I'm pretty sure the current one is a Johnson Control battery, as was the one I replaced.

I'm not planning on having to replace this one for a few years, although obviously will if I need to.

Walmart Store Brand EverStart batteries - Do they typically last 5 years or do they need frequent replacement?

Where do you live, Texas or Maine? You won't get 5 years from too many batteries in the Texas heat.

You know of flat top batteries with no distinguishable caps and a sight glass/eye that aren't sealed aka maintenance free?

Who is providing the batteries is going to depend on regional supply. I got another Everstart Plus, group 65, 3 months ago and it was still the same JC design with vent caps that I've bought previously.

Happened to see my go-to battery at Walmart yesterday. You can still get a 36R with caps which I’d recommend to those who don’t mind doing battery maintenance. I remove the caps at the end of the summer and top up the battery to the correct level. With the three year free replacement, I don’t care where it’s from.

I have always had great luck with these batteries from Walmart. I have been using them for at least 20 years, they have had a few different names over the years but they always lasted a long time for me. I got 8 years from one in my old 2006 Civic.

I'm thinking about picking up one of the Group 65 batteries. Mid range. My truck has a 10 year old battery. Both that and the Grand Marquis use the same battery so I'll probably move the 4 year old battery from the Mercury to the truck and buy that a new battery since it's a daily driver.

I have had one fail before but that was my fault for not disconnecting it on a vehicle that has a known battery draw. It drained the battery in the winter and the battery froze.

There's too many variables (vehicle usage, climate, etc) to really get a decent idea of how long they last.

It's more important to realize that they aren't "Walmart" batteries, they are JCI or East Penn or some other manufacturer (seems to depend on your region). And no, those companies don't make cheaper versions for Walmart. These are the same batteries you get at Autozone, O'Reilly, local parts stores, etc.
for about $20.00 to $40.00 less at Walmart, and Walmart stock of batteries moves fast so they are fresh unless you find that rare one that was passed over again and again because the others had a fresher build date.

I just did a preemptive replacement of the Everstart Maxx 24F in my wife's Infiniti sedan. The old one was still cranking strong at 6 years old and was charging up to 88%. But we're soon to travel to western NY, and I figure this is the last battery I'll buy for this car, which we've owned since new. The new Everstart was $140, or $60 to $85 less than the auto parts stores. No Everstart complaints here.

I have two in my truck. Almost 5 years old now. My other truck that gets driven everyday with a hot engine compartment for most of the day only gets like 2 years out of a battery. Imo driving it often enough to keep a full charge but not necessarily on a daily basis leads to the longest life.

Unsure who manufacturers the Walmart batteries where you live. In DE and NY it's East Penn. The battery serial number has an EP in it.

If you get an East Penn Walmart EverStart MAXX battery I think you can get 4 to 5 years assuming you don't live in the hot South.
