Curious what everyone is using in their 5.7s. Multiple responses allowed to try to capture vehicle year.

Charger, Ram, 300, GC, etc, etc, doesn't matter. Trying to keep it isolated to the 5.7 as I don't know what differences (if any) exist between the 5.7 and the 6.1/6.4.

Discuss as you wish, but please answer the poll.

I've used a sprinkling of everything; 0w-30, 5w-20, 5w-30, and 0w-40. Most of it is 5w-30, I've tried other weights in the winter to try and reduce a knocking I hear on cold starts but (as everyone here would probably already know) none of it has helped. Probably just piston slap.

Edit: also it's fascinating watching FCA change the spec on the oil throughout the years. Owners manuals are around which "recommend" or "allow":

5w-20
5w-30
0w-20

Far as I know only the lifters were (slightly) modified once or twice with the rest of the engine unchanged after 2009 when it received eagle heads and VVT.

Agreed.

Especially when you take the 2500 5.7s into account.

The 2013 owners manual separates the oil recommendation for the 1500 and 2500. 5w20 for the 1500 and 5w30 for the 2500. The main concern for them is the MS-6395 spec, which after reading the spec, doesn't seem all that special.

I did find a manual from the middle east the other week for a newer Ram (don't remember the year) that spec'd 5w20. Thought that was curious because of the climate there.

My owners manual only "recommends" the ms-6395 spec, and the wording suggests it's not a requirement.

21 5.7 non e torque. 50k miles now and has had only PP 5-20 and a Mopar filter. Don’t want a dealer to have any reason to look at it sideways if it has an engine warranty issue. 7500 OCI based on 2.6 TBN left on my blackstone analysis. That OCI was at 10k miles after I changed out the factory fill at 2500 to PP. That OCI had about 5k miles towing on it.

I ran synthetic 5-20 in my 2010 up to 140k miles before trading it. I had the oil pan off myself for a leak around 120k and it looked new inside with 0 sludge. 6k OCI on that truck generally.

That good info. I haven’t seen significant deposits in my filter after 5000 and 10000 miles of HPL. It had PP FOR 40k prior.
Is this just the Supercar ow20?
They didn’t do the SuperCar in 0w20 until OVERKILL asked for it. The 502 spec doesn’t allow for a 0w20.

HPL Super Car "Overkill" 0W-20 in ours.
HPL Euro No VII 5W20 in mine.
After talking with David, I think I’ve settled on No VII Euro 5w30 for the 502 add pack. It was either that or the 0w30 SuperCar.

M1 0W20 (Truck and SUV) as it carries the CHRYSLER MS-6395 spec and WIX XP filters because i like the build quality on a teardown i saw. I don't like pushing long OCI's especially with all the problems on modern engines so i change my oil at around 5K miles.

Oil is cheap, engines are expensive :)
