Looked at a few of these filters at wally world today... Looks like a pretty good filter. I would have liked it better if they'd use a coil spring instead of the stamped steel spring.
I will never understand running an oil or filter over 10k miles. I won't go over 5k because I have a DI Turbo engine with out port injection. Just doesn't make sense to me.
Because I have a company van (the Transit 250), other than the xB the vehicles in my sig sit most of the time. All of them have solar battery maintainers (& sit in the sun outside), and they get driven far enough to get fully warmed up, and they don’t have moisture buildup issues. Actually, one of the biggest issues I’ve seen is NOT keeping fuel tanks filled all the way, especially on diesels-that’s a sure recipe for fuel problems.I'm not saying your wrong, but it depends on a persons driving habits and vehicle.
How many miles do you drive a year? What is your driving style: city or highway?
I live in the country, I drive around 35,000 miles a year mostly on interstates. There have been years that I have driven over 50,000 miles. I'm sure my tires, oil, brakes, and most car parts last longer than a city dweller's. I don't like that cars are valued by their miles. I bet most cars that have the same mileage as mine, have many more hours on them. I like the equipment standard of using hours. A low mileage car could have spent its life idling for 5,000 hours.
Cars that don't get driven much can see issue related to under charged batteries and added fuel/water in oil.
Certainly not in his yellow VW.Anyone that would run an oil filter or oil for 20,000 is crazy. 10,000 is bad enough but 20,000 takes the cake. I know that AutoMechanic will not be using that filter at least not for 20,000 miles.
It probably just has a screen to catch rocks anyway.Certainly not in his yellow VW.
Call me CRAZY then!! I've gone OVER 20,000 miles on both the oil AND the oil filter on my 2008 Toyota sienna van. The van is a 2008. The oil is Mobil1 EP synthetic 5w-30. The filter is the Fram Ultra. The van does NOT use any oil for the whole 20,000 mile interval. I also sent a sample into Blackstone labs and they said that the OCI could be extended to 23,000 miles I went 22,000 miles on one of my oci's. The van has 361085 miles on it now. The point is that SOME vehicles CAN do this!!. Driving habits also figure into this. My wife and I drive this van about 29,000 miles per year. About 65-70% is highway driving. You remind me of someone else named Bill Walton. When he ( Bill Walton) was about your age, coach John Wooden told him, "Bill, You've got SO much to learn"!! AutoMechanic, you have SO much to learn!! Do I think that you'll get there? I do. But, just like the rest of us, you'll have your ups and downs. Thanks, Bill PaceAnyone that would run an oil filter or oil for 20,000 is crazy. 10,000 is bad enough but 20,000 takes the cake. Thanks for pictures Wemay
Have we really seen vehicles on the side of the road for overdue OC?Anyone that would run an oil filter or oil for 20,000 is crazy. 10,000 is bad enough but 20,000 takes the cake. I know that AutoMechanic will not be using that filter at least not for 20,000 miles.
Yes my friends dad has been known to stop when his car hits the exact mileage for an oil change, no joke. And you are braver than I am and that’s fine. But yes I would definitely lose sleep over those intervals. We do 5,000 on my moms 2017 Camry it recommends 10,000 but me and my dad believe the factory is crazy and that’s what all the guys I work with too believe. Usually the oil is pitch black by then anyway. Our oils maybe better but they aren’t convincing enough to me.Have we really seen vehicles on the side of the road for overdue OC?
The 15k mile or more OCI has been recommended in Europe for over 15 years now. We've not witnessed an outcry due to oil related failures, have we? I would not really have a problem going 2 or possibly 3 7500 mile OCIs on such a filter. Not that changing the filter on my 2012 Mazda3 is any sort of hardship.
Oils and apparently filters are better these days. Mazda recommends a 7500 mile OCI for my car on 0W20. At 133k miles, the last 65k being on my watch in the past 3.5 years, things seem to be going well.
Our 2017 Rav4 calls for 10k mile OCIs and at 90k miles, it too is purring along. Neither seem to use enough oil to move the level on the dipstick, so something must be working well.
Of course, we both put on the order of 19-21k miles/year on each of our rides, so not much short tripping for these cars.
Frankly, I'd probably lose no sleep over picking a 20k mile oil and filter and going 15k on the Mazda and 20k on the Toyota. But then, I do check my oil periodically, etc.
But if you sleep better with 3-5k mile OCIs in your cars, I'm not going to suggest you change.
The ST6607 e-core used a poppet.Has anyone taken a close look at the MP6607? I believe the ST6607 used a combo bypass instead of the poppet, probably since the can is so tiny - just wondering if the new one is the same.
I’ll take Belief Systems for $100 AlexYes my friends dad has been known to stop when his car hits the exact mileage for an oil change, no joke. And you are braver than I am and that’s fine. Don't think they are going away, there is a new package for these in white for this part number thus far. Same price too.Looks like the MP are replacing the ST (at least at my store). Only ST filters left were some ST5 and some cartridge filter.
Not happy about the ST going away, since these HP are priced almost twice what the ST was (well, actually 85% more).
Was hoping they would keep both the ST and HP line, but guess not.
I think they are forgetting many customers just look for the cheapest price, and the ST filter was the cheapest. Now it will be the Fram Orange can.
Figures since I had decided that the ST9688 was going to be the filter I was going to use on all my Hyundai/Kia vehicles and the ST2 was what I have been using on my brother in law's F150.
I will probably just use a Fram PH filter for them instead (see what I just said above, lowest price wins).
Although I may use the HP7317 form my Goldwing.
Only reason I was not going to use the ST (aside from them not having a 7317 size) was the lack of a silicone ADV (I just feel more comfortable having a silicone ADV on a motorcycle for some reason).
