It's a basic car, 1000 miles on it and has a manual transmission. The VW dealer thst has it is asking $7000 over Blue Book. Is there something I don't understand or are they just trying to pull a "rip off"?

I have seen VW GTIs here in the Northeast going for $2K less than a brand new GTI.
Apparently, GTIs hold their value.

GTIs are in demand right now. They're getting hard to come by and dealers are charging a premium.

Maybe look at a Jetta GLI as an alternative. The vw dealership near me actually has one one in gray but manual transmission and options.

High-demand new, and this for all intents/purposes is new....just fluff for the people that don't understand the basics of negotiation to bite on. Offer what you think is fair which will be MSRP new at the absolute most. No real risk buying it this way, still new, still under warranty...1K miles is like a few weeks of driving.

Doesn't the dealer know new car and used car prices are in a free fall and are crashing every week. Ask him if you can buy it from him when he goes out of business when he has to try to sustain his floor plan when people won't buy cars from him. Also ask him who his bank is who has his floor plan, because you will buy that car $1,000 below Blue Book when his doors close. No one but maybe the Toyota dealer with a GR Corolla should be going over sticker or Blue Book. You know to stay away from that Rip-Off dealer.

$7000 "over"? That stealership is definitely trying to bend someone over.

when buyers STOP overpaying, overcharging will STOP!! look elsewhere + shopping on line first is EZE!!!

Agreed the GTI is an in demand vehicle, not much negotiation power there, however "Bluebook" on a 2023 is pretty meaningless on a current model year vehicle. What's the asking price vs. MSRP?
