Daughter thinking about a WRX

There is something about the 2022+ rear profile in Silver or White that is extremely attractive. It looked pretty stunning in person for the few I've seen.

The 22+ rear end screams Honda Civic to me, unfortunately. I much prefer the 2006-2007 body style that @skyactiv had like I do (although mine isn’t a WRX). It had great proportions, fender flares similar to the 80’s Capri, and has a fantastic feel ripping down dirt roads even with a 4EAT.

So in some ways the development of the WRX has progressed (NVH, comfort, electronics); in some ways it is stagnant (No real horsepower or performance differences stock), and to me, on looks it has regressed. These days, I’d happily drop $30k for a 20-year-old mint stock, low-mileage EJ257 5sp car rather than $40k on a brand new one with a CVT, smaller engine, ugly butt, and depreciation.

I once owned a 2007 WRX I bought new. It had a 5 speed manual while the newer ones are a 6 speed manual. My WRX was the most reliable car I ever owned. My wife put a ton of miles on it. Replaced it with a 2013 GTI but kept the WRX around a few more years after that. The GTI was my most favorite car I ever owned, despite needing a few repairs. The WRX was hard to learn its limitations on being AWD--I never did. The GTI was an easy driver and more fun despite being FWD. I think the same holds true for the new ones today. If she wants a stick in a GTI look now as 2024 is the last year for one.

We got compliments on the WRX about every time we were out in it.

I would have definitely kept it and use as a weekend car.

A true classic.
