2021 Nissan Titan VK56DE - How specific of oil?

Nissan seems to be recommending 0w20 across the board these days. I've substituted it with synthetic 5w30 since 2016 in my Nissans.

Has their been a time when Titans weren't a great truck aside from a few issues earlier on? I don't know if it's the Nissan 'quality' stigma, their complete lack of marketing that killed the titan or a combo of the two.

I know a few years back when we got my FIL's Frontier and my Pathfinder, that particular dealer would only stock one or two Titans a time due to slow/no sales of them.
I recall the QR25 being specced to 0w20 after the last gen Altima used 5w30 (despite no change in the actual motor). My 2015 Sentra also has this same option that OP has - 0w20 recommended, yet owner's manual allows for 5w30 as well.

With Nissan, they're just trying to get their MPG numbers looking good.

All I can say is that Nissan has just played it too safe with every new version of the Titan. I think that’s one of the biggest reasons why they lag in sales.

I’m not complaining because it allowed me to buy a brand new Pro4X last year at 12k under MSRP when every other brand was at or over sticker price.

Excuse my ignorance, the VK56DE is no longer in the Titan, as of '17 model year the DI version is the VK56VD.
That’s correct. Somehow they still don’t get any better fuel economy with all the extra technology. I really like my truck, but it would be even better if Nissan had a twin turbo V6 option, like a detuned GTR.

My Nissan has the very common QR25DE engine, in the owners manual it lists: 5W30, 5W40, 10W30, 10W40, 10W50, 15W40, 15W50, 20W40 and 20W50.

Thanks for the update! Looks great!

Any issues?
There were a few sloppy wire harnesses which needed to be clipped appropriately (only those who cover every inch of their vehicle would notice.) The transmission was confused at first but has calmed down and now Nissan has an update. The truck otherwise has been great!

Asks for 0-20 or 5-30 I believe. SN and GF5.

Can Euro blends in 0-40 be used or just the specific recommended?
When I worked at Nissan as a tech, lots of consumers brought in Mobil 1 0w40 to be put in their trucks and we put it in alot of VQ’s. Nissan recommends 0w20 for fuel efficiency only. If it was mine, I would run 5w30 or higher and change at 5,000 miles only. Do not try to extend these oil changes.

Yep, I am at 4k-5k intervals. I have some 0W-20 to get through but have a bunch of 5W-30 it will live on.

Looks like this so far:

1174 miles 4/7/2021 Kirkland 5W-30 synthetic.
5258 Miles 8/8/21 Kirkland 5W-30 synthetic.
9372 miles 11/10/21 Kirkland 0W-20
13328 miles 3/2/22 Kirkland 5W-30
18774 miles 7/22/22 Kirkland 5W-30
23301 miles 10/7/22 Valvoline EP 0W-20

When you posted I had 100 miles on it. I'm now 24k miles in. Been very happy with it!

She does look nice!

I've since added another Nissan to my fleet. I traded my Ram for a new Frontier a few weeks back. I think we share the same 9spd Mercedes Benz (based) transmission. The little 3.8 has a surprising amount of power in the new Frontiers. Really good fuel economy too.
