2019 Subaru - 439k miles... Nothing but 0w20

I’m a semi mechanic and we use to have a few trucks that ran team drivers for a dedicated customer. Those trucks ran 5500 miles a week being out 5 days a week.
I did some team driving for a few years it is brutal.

Does anyone know how this thing ran before it threw a rod? Why it threw a rod? How much oil it was consuming? What the engine sounded like?

The mileage is impressive, but we hear of this from time to time from many different engine manufacturers, and it's typically the best case driving scenario like rural deliveries, nothing to get too excited about. The engine in this case did implode.

All it says is that 0w20 is "good enough", and "oil thickies" on here will agree to this all day long.

Maybe the thing would still be running if it had been using a xw40 its whole life.

The last pic on that post showed a hole in the block too where the connecting rod had come out to say hello , however.
Just thing if the engine uses a 0W.40 oil with a Fram Ultra filter [the old style] !!!

Things have to turn pretty drastic in order for an engine to throw a rod - like the engine starving for oil or some other major oiling system problem (pump fails, etc). This engine was still running when it was pulled. The bearings were smoked, and one was totally gone on one rod.

So in the case of the Subaru with 439K, it's likely the owner got tired of checking the oil, and it was burning so much that things went sideways from oil starvation, maybe quickly or maybe a little at a time. I wish I had a job where I could rack up the miles, I'd buy the same car and aim for higher miles, with a lengthy OCI, I just wouldn't use 0w20 in these things for a minute longer than it would take me to drive home from the dealership.

How many miles do you have on your vehicle?
