I am the car guy in the family and everyone ask for my recomendation when they are going to purchase a new car.

My sister had an 03 Accord I4 Sedan she gave to her son when he turned 21. She now drives an 06 Honda Pilot 2wd.

She now wants a midsize sedan. It has to be an American nameplate. The striking price has to be under $30k. So that does not include tax, license, and things like transportation fees.

So what does the board think of the new Buick LaCrosse? MSRP starts at just under $28K

She works for Honeywell. Every once in a while I know the Big Wigs give mid level people *&%( for not driving Detroit steel.

Although Honeywell's automotive divisions do supply Japanese companies most of their OEM sales are to Detroit.

I like that looks of that car - I posted info about it about a month or so ago.

I think Malibu is based on platform Epsilon I and LaCrosse is based on Epsilon II.

So the Buick should have a better unibody?

The Taurus is nice but maybe a little too big. I imagine their will be 10 Tauri(? LOL) on the road for every LaCrosse. Its kinda nice to have something a little more rare all else being equal.

I could not find that thread using the search feature maybe you could post a link?

Thanks.

It's got 255 hp out of 3 liters? Wow. The 18/27 mpg sounds bad, but that's the rating of my big Buick with the 3.8, and I usually see 21/30. The LaCrosse may do as well if driven gently, and the 6-speed tranny should help with mpg on the highway.

It weighs more than my Park Avenue does! If you live where the streets are poorly paved, though, the extra weight will make for a better ride.

If it's anything like the '06 I test-drove two years ago, it'll be a pleasant car, and the 2010 has a nicer interior.

If she likes the Buick, she should buy it. But tell those fine gentlemen at Honyewell if they don't like it to quit making all those parts for the Honda's she owns that are made here.

Same mileage as my LeSabre. And 500 lbs more weight.

Should be good for low 30's on the highway if she keeps her foot out of it.

It's a Buick, so the interior will look pretty. Won't say much about functionality as I haven't seen the car.

The '10 LaCrosse has laminated windows and some extra sound deadning material. The Lexus ES350 was benchmarked. The Buick is supposedly quiter. That is where the weight is mostly located.

And about that quality gap..

I thought they start arriving at dealerships in early January?

I did a search of local dealer inventories through buick.com and autotrader. I got nil inventory.

Glad to hear you liked it.
