Hi,

I own this vehicle. It has about 74k on the JDM engine that was installed about 7 years ago. No problems with the engine whatsoever.

I change the oil every 5k miles with Mobil One 0-30 AFE and Subaru black oil filter.

I use M1 Euro 0-40 on my Ej257 Forester XT and both of my ALH TDI(s).

Would that be more suitable or should I keep going with the M1 AFE?

I notice no real issues with oil consumption. Not to say that it doesn't burn some oil but it's not something that is really on my mind.

The vehicle is going to be handed down to my daughter and is short tripped.

It uses premium fuel only and also only gets 16 mpg. With the small fuel tank this thing is always at the pump.

However, I keep it because the body is in great shape for the year and the engine has such low mileage.

I also keep it around because it's the devil I know and it's nice and safe for my daughter.

Thanks!

What you get is unbelievable quality. Love those flat sixes.
I feel like just about every one of these blows head gaskets at around 170k. Not so much with the ez36r. This is how the JDM engine came about for this vehicle.

Possibly. We traded ours at 107k, but always felt that the vehicle was barely broken in. These cars are getting rarer, and the head gasket or an electrical problem could easily push one beyond economic repair.

Which one did you have? Outback or Tribeca? I know what you mean about the engine's feeling. We sued the dealer over it and got the JDM engine so it worked out.
